Disney & Barneys & Christmas what could be better

I can't believe its only something crazy like 36 days till Christmas!!!! So instead of freaking out about decorating, present buying and all that jazz I've decided to go looking for inspiration.  Last year's theme was Vintage but this year I'm thinking of going cute geek girl.  So first port of call is Disney for inspiration, and I stumbled on the clip for the launch of Disney and Barney's collaboration for their New York Electric Holiday.

So this got me to thinking what would a cute geek girl Christmas look like; and yes you will see more geek inspiration in days to come, but for now its all Disney.  Thankfully even though I'm not near the magical kingdom I can still get my hands on cute Disney things.  Plus I may it may include a couple of hello kitty things for a bit of extra cuteness.

I'm currently thinking lots of sparkle, lights and mickey inspired decorations plus a lot of the Disney Princess' for that extra special touch.  Watch out christmas stores here comes Tiki.

Oh Christmas Tree

Every year I have a Christmas tradition when it comes to buying my Christmas tree. Its pretty simple but I get up nice and early on a sunday morning early in December and head to the Oakleigh Centre in Melbourne. Why you may be asking? Well... my family and I have been buying Christmas trees from there my whole life. Tradition is not the only reason, more important reason is the money raised from the selling of Christmas trees directly goes to the Oakleigh Centre who's mission is to provide a range of specialised and innovative support services which enhance the quality of life for people with primarily an intellectual disability and their families. This amazing place has been helping people in the community since the 1950's and continues to help with the on going support of the locals.

So when you head out to pick your Christmas tree why not grab one from your local community groups instead of the supermarket.

Trim that tree

Ok so the countdown is on to my favourite day of Christmas....TREE DAY!!!

The only question remains what style should I go for this year. Thanks to the many blogs that I read I am torn between my normal retro/traditional theme or maybe ultra cute.

I admit I already have a heap of retro decorations which would setting up the tree nice and easy but I do like the idea of a totally girl cute hello kitty inspired tree. I'm sure the Martha Stewart vibe will kick in and I'll know what to do.

I love Mode Merr

With the festive season creeping up on us I thought it was time to hit the net to see what I could find for all those parties on the horizon. Last year I headed to Betty Page but this year I'm thinking I should head back to the label that inspired me many years ago; Mode Merr. In true Mode Merr style I was just delighted at the dresses on offer, so I figured I'd share.

The first to catch my eye was the "Eye Candy Blouse" which according to Mode Merr is a sweet interpretation of their best selling "Everybody Loves Cleavage" Blouse. It is a pull on top is made of soft cotton lycra jersey. with a Peter Pan Collar and keyhole neckline are trimmed with red ric-rac and fastened with a grosgrain ribbon bow. As you can see by the picture above it looks stunning teamed with a full skirt however I am sure that it would look just as stunning with a pencil skirt too.

Of course the ultra cute "Candy Dress" also caught my eye. Who doesn't love a stunning dress for Christmas that also will help satisfy your sweet tooth. Made of red stretch cotton twill with playful candies cascading down the a-line skirt. Ok so if anyone wants to send me an early christmas gift here is you very unsubtle hints LOL

Happy frock shopping

Inspiration

With the big day drawing closer I am in full festive season swing. Even my work mates are commenting on my festive red nails, sparkle eyeliner and most importantly christmas themed earrings.

So the biggest question is how am I going to theme Christmas. Well obviously its going to be vintage, but do I go for standard colours or for more of a mix?

So I decided to dive head first into the world of Christmas and head to my local Christmas kingdom. Oh my did I head to the right place. It was full of everything Christmas however amongst my frenzy of decoration buying a question was raised that I never thought I'd ask myself. "Do I need a 5ft crystal deer filled with LED lights?" Thankfully the price tag answered it but for some strange reason I would like to have a couple of them on my lawn at the moment.

Yummy Treats

Now for one reason or another gingerbread is big at Christmas, personally my weakness is Walkers Shortbread; however this year I found these amazing gingerbread cookies.

My local bakery is usually known for Greek treats such as baklava (ok mind drifting off to yummy cake thoughts now) but on my weekly trip to find delicious food I came across these!

Aren't they cute and not always the traditional designs. I especially love the dachshund above, SO CUTE!!!! So I stocked up as a welcome gift for all my house guests this Christmas. I'll let you know what they thought after they get here.

Merry Christmas

Christmas Party Crisis

Right people thinking caps on! I have to attend 2 work Christmas parties over the next fortnight and I'm having a dress crisis! The first one at least is going to be full of people embracing their won personal style so I will be going retro or goth. The only real challenge here is figuring out what exactly to wear.

The second, and in my mind scary one, is the major work party I'll be attending which has a theme!!!! Our theme is JUNGLE! Ok so not that bad I hear you say, but I don't own leopard print and I don't want to go dressed as Tarzan or Jane. Basically I need to find the perfect outfit that embraces my style and the theme I guess. Plus this work function will include my bosses and staff *insert scary music here* so I still want to be fun but staying true to the real me. Also add to the fact that this is my first Christmas with the company so the pressure is on as I don't really know what the dress standards are like for these events.

So time to put on my Blair Waldorf cap and plan the perfect outfit.

A bit of cheer

Yes I've been bitten by the Christmas planning bug so I've been wondering what new traditions I can bring to my new house. Since this year has been a very big one for change and starting over I thought it may be time to forge a few new traditions.

My first idea is to hold a tree trimming party on Christmas eve with lots of bubbles, retro music on the and get everyone round to dress my christmas tree. Maybe a bit of baking like some yummy cupcakes and small finger food to feed the hungry masses.

Or how about a carolling party with a twist. Instead of all of the normal carols grab some karoke cd's and starting singing till your hearts content.

Gifts for others party. How about everyone bring a present for a charity and sit around watching our favorite christmas movies, wrapping and them give them to a local charity.

So whats the verdict? Maybe a few new traditions this year. I'll keep you posted on how things go.

Thinking about Christmas

The stores are full of shoppers, christmas decorations and people scratching their head wondering why all this is happening. Personally I like to leave the world of Christmas to december but it seems the retail world won't let me. So I've put on my santa hat and started to plan.

This year I have the joy of hosting my family in my new home. *jumping up down with excitement here* so I'm in planning mode. At current count there will be a guest in every spare room and my theme is Rockabilly Christmas or maybe Vintage. Not sure yet but what ever I do its going to be big.

I'm thinking lots of 'merry' cocktails, cute little cupcakes and very cheery place settings. So time to hit the net for planning ideas.

all wrapped up

Well the presents have all been opened, the turkey has been eaten and now its time to play with the presents. I will be posting some stunning images of vintage finds I was given by family. (photos to come. I hope this post finds you all full from food and surrounded by your loved ones.

I ended spending a good part of my Christmas morning baking cupcakes for the family get together then of course most of the afternoon eating them. Its funny how no matter your age when a family gets together how we all fall back into our roles like children.

So now to go off and play with everything before we get to tired.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.

this is your final call

sitting in at the net kiosk in the airport terminal just killing a bit of time before I hop the flight to qld. Its at times like this is makes me think of how air travel, or travel in general, has changed. No longer do we dress for the occasion.

However I know there are a few ladies out there who still do. But I must admit walking into the terminal in matching outfit and luggage in heels did create a few turned heads this morning. Or it could be that I was doing this at 7am. I admit it wasn't full make up but at 5.30 am its hard to focus in the mirror without a massive quanity of cofffee.

I will up load images later when I get the chance.....coz I have a few goodies.

So what does this christmas season have in store for Ms Tiki Doll, so far it's work with a little bit of down time. Watch this space for more news.

Must dash....will update once landed
