Post Australia Day Post

For some people jan 26 is australia day, ok so it still is but for me its mainly Triple J's Hottest 100 day. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about here is a little history. According to Mark Scott - Managing Director, Australian Broadcasting Corporation "a record 1.1 million votes cast in hottest 100 (up 46% on last year)" which is pretty cool if you ask me.

"triple j's hottest 100
is one of the largest public music polls in the world with millions of individual votes counted since it's inception in 1989. Originally listeners were asked to compile a list of their favourite songs of all time and mail them to triple j.

Diligent triple j staffers then tallied these votes by hand! Today things have been greatly simplified behind the scenes, with all voting cast using either SMS or online.

Joy Division topped the first hottest 100 with the classic "Love Will Tear Us Apart". The seminal British band stayed on top for successive years until a band called Nirvana released a little tune by the name of "Smells like Teen Spirit" in '91. The focus of the Hottest 100 changed after these early years limiting the voting selection to songs released in the previous 12 months. Since the change, Australian artists have featured prominently with Spiderbait, The Whitlams, Powderfinger ,Alex Lloyd and Jet all having taken the coveted number one position. " taken from Triple J Homepage www.abc.net.au/triplej

Normally for my friends (online and in person) and I its a day of games like seeing who can guess the most correct entries, who gets number 1; bbq's, drinks and general fun.

Everyone seems to celebrate in different ways, on the triple J site some of the images around the world are fantastic especially of Rosie and
Tom (2 triple j presenters) surprising the winner of the best party in qld.

little bit of inspiration

I've been feeling a bit crafty and in need of some inspiration so I got to making these two mood boards. The one above is a combination of photos i've taken and found. Below is a great phrase that I thought everyone should read.

feeling a bit french

Thanks to Sweet Libertine I have been introduced to the great little store on Etsy called Little Waltz which because of the above necklace inspired me to dress a little bit french today.

So with a little of pink, black and silver that I headed out to the big wide world.

Found the super cute bag at my local Salvo's store for less than a cup of coffee, you gotta love finds like that and today's outfit seemed like the perfect time to bring out of storage.

Plus by sheer luck the lovely little flower detail on the bag mirrors my pink sparkle ring fro Diva.

So with floral ballet flats I headed out for coffee and catch ups.

Sometimes you just got to go with the vibe of the day. Now to get a bottle of champagne and listen to sweet but melancholy music.

I'm thinking the above little number is a must for the coming autumn season. However this may all change when I see the new release of garments from Circa Nocturna in march. Yes I am already looking that far ahead.

Print This

So the hunting for patterns has got me hunting around in the strangest places. Which means I came across so many other things instead of fabrics. Explain to me why when your hunting for one thing its the only thing you can't find, but everything else you'd been hunting for ages ago magically turns up in front of you.

So i grabbed the camera and started snapping this fantastic paper. Its all fantastically retro with a classical inspired feel.

Now to have a craft/sewing room like Martha Stewart where its all there to play with. But is the neat craft room (and i mean V V neat) really the best place to be creative in? I love the idea but my gut instincts tell me I just spend my days tidying it all and not being creative. On the upside that's not a worry, now just to organise the tones of craft stuff i have currently have.

hundreds of colours of thread

Ever spend a whole weekend looking for that perfect dress or outfit. Well if your like me you have, not to mention since my taste is a little left of centre it makes it a bit harder. So a few days ago I decided to start pattern hunting because lets face it if you can't find make it.

And joy I found a few projects for this doll to sink her teeth into. Sure I know have to fix up the sewing machine and find fabrics....oh yeah figure out to fit this all together without a dummy (yes next purchase on the list) I must admit the image above I think i need to make about 20 of these in various fabrics because she is the ultimate all rounder design for me.

I think these would be great in so many fabrics and worn day to day. As well as the added ruffle of some tulle in the underskirt.

I'm thinking these for work, the coats will be great for Melbourne winters and great little suits.

I just adore these ones to, plus I can add the these to my other collection of 50's patterens.

Ok so now to find fabric and get sewing. Watch this space for updates

Planning for Wintersun

Ok so its no where near june but with all the air fare specials on my mind has turned to one of my fav times of year WinterSun!!!!!! It doesn't hurt that the Victorian hot rod show is on next weekend. http://www.hotrod.com.au/ Yes I know I just go to drool over the cars but they are SO BEAUTIFUL!

Now growing up on the Gold Coast this was one of the few times when I could indulge myself in the cars, fashion, makeup and music of the 40's 50's and 60's.

And it did make me a feel a little bit more normal being surrounded by all the colour and passion about the time. Sure I may have been the young one who could have been mistaken for being dragged by her father (ok so the first year that was true but once there i was addicted).

So I'm looking at flights and lodgings; plus the most important things WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR????? Time to start ordering from the US and getting in front of that sewing machine. Brace yourself GC your little rockabilly is on her way back!

Plus it doesn't hurt that there will be a burlesque night as well. Oh well I guess I'll just have to force myself to go ;)

drink up

At this time of year there are lots of options when it comes to wine. Personally if it tastes nice its gets my vote. I may not be the fussiest person when it somes to my whites but I do love good packaging.

This one grabbed my eye and wasn't half bad. Went down really easy at a family BBQ over the heat wave, so keep your eyes peeled for groovy bottles and yummy drops

conference

All this christmas travel has got me thinking about the last time I was lucky enough to stay in a plush hotel.

I was sent to a cute boutique hotel near melbourne CBD and of course the little laptop had to come with me. So it got me thinking about the trouble of packing i go through when I hit the road. My best advice is to think about what you can wear that has multi options. (yes all you virginblue check in staff who have seen my giant case this christmas, I can see you shaking your head from here) A couple of basics with some key pieces can really make a difference.

That and some great jewels that can really bring some sparkle to your outfit and face.
