In a few days the lovely ladies of Brisbane will be having another great chance to spoil themselves with fabulous frocks, amazing women and all the things that make us Love Vintage.  Not sure what I'm going on about well.... the Love Vintage Fair is in town from Friday 13th until Sunday 15th.

Apart from great fashion and accessories for sale you can also take in some amazing fashion parades and best of all some wonderful masterclasses with some of the best gals in the business.  

Do you want to know the best way to wear a hat? - have a chat with the gals from Circa Vintage Hats and Bonnie Rose Vintage.   What about some makeup hints and tricks?  The wonderful ladies from the Lindy Charm School will help you there.  Or maybe your looking for some tips on how to be a burlesque pinup well the stunning Foxtrot India will be your guide.

Now its no secret that I adore corsets, lingerie and suspenders. However I was recently asked where I find some of my 'modern vintage' pieces; to which I hate to reply one of my favorite UK stores Kiss Me Deadly

I have spoken about them before, but it never hurts to revisit old favorites now does it. Why do I like them? Its simple not only do they do brilliant 'modern vintage' pieces, they are also great about sizing and sending to Australia. However if you keep your eyes peeled you can find them in some very selected stores in Melbourne at least.

You may wondering why I'm suggesting ordering online from the UK when you can pick up a perfectly good suspender belt from Myer's or Bras'n'things. Well quiet frankly its all about the width of the actual suspender (the piece linking your stockings to the belt) and garter tabs (those pesky clasps that tend to not want to stay done up) on certain belts out there.

A great six strap suspender belt, with metal clips, is really the thing they do best. As well as the stunning vintage appeal the styles suit 40's and 50's glamor while still being very comfortable. And the best bonus.....they don't slide around while your wearing them. Not to forget that they use Metal garter tabs not plastic which stand up to better wear and washing.

So during my last flight I decided to while a way my time by watching the in flight entertainment. Thankfully one episode of my new favorite comedy “the big bang theory” was on so I could giggle away in my seat, however once finished I figured “hey I’m on a 2 hour flight lets see what this Gossip Girl thing is”. So by the end of the flight (since there was only 1 episode to watch, the pilot thankfully) I was hooked into the fashion of this show. Story wise ok (the more I watch the more I like) but it’s the fashion and hair that I’m addicted to at the moment; especially that of one character, Blair.

For those of you who aren’t watching this show Blair isn’t the main the character but I must say when she’s on the screen all the other girls pale in comparison. There is something about her prep school / vintage inspired look that has just grabbed me. Maybe it’s also the fact that like me she’s a brunette and all of us non blonde girls must stick together. LOL And with that stunning mane of chocolate and cinnamon brown, often with luscious curls it didn’t take long for her to become my favorite.

So what does a modern ‘90210’ (yep showing my age there) have to do with my love of vintage fashion and lingerie you might well ask. Well after a few episodes it was clear to see that the costume department has taken cues not only from fantastic modern pieces but have also included some vintage glamour. This little navy sailor inspired dress above was a perfect example. Add the right hat and a pair of white gloves (and a slightly longer hem line) and you’d be forgiven in thinking this was vintage. Plus her combination of demure and racy outfits show that there is so much you can do with dare I say it, modern vintage.

It has really inspired to start looking again in more conventional stores to find a few key pieces that can be transformed into my “good girl gone bad style” and also reminds us that even the bad girls can still do park avenue princess.

Sage Slip from Dollhouse Bettie

What I did find amazing was in one of the episodes (1^st series) when Blair ends up at a Burlesque club, then undresses to her green slip not that far away from this sage slip from Dollhouse Bettie which I recently featured. Plus the added wow factor a modern gal who seems to always wear stocking and suspenders…a girl truly after my own heart. With this all in mind it wasn’t that long till I came across an amazing couple of finds….a grey knit dress and a divine black fitted jacket that just screams OWN ME!!!!!!! Watch this space as yes they both did somehow find their way into my wardrobe.

And my last word of Blair and gossip girl… if you fancy a visual feast and don’t mind curling up on the couch in pj’s with a hot chocolate for some girl tv, rent out the series. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

In this heat

In this heat I am struggling with my love of stockings. I have invested in some stunning pairs from various providers but with the heat wave in Melbourne its proving a little harder to wear everyday.

So many of you may ask why since the invention of pantyhose or tights would anyone want to wear stockings unless you are trying to rev up the engine of your partner.

Well for me personally they make me walk taller, smile more and generally feel spectacular. There is just something special about walking around knowing that under your dress/skirt is the this silken pleasure is there, only for you and for those you wish to share it with.

I do firmly believe that lingerie is the foundation of you day, so with the right beginnings anything is possible.

I can only advise that ladies its time to hit the shops and grad a pair of stocking. Stay ups or true stockings and walk tall in your beauty.
