Va Va Voom

Now I often write about fashion and I'm usually referring to things my size, however I found this amazing store but sadly I can't wear anything. The reason is City Chic only design clothing for sizes AUS14 and up.

This season you will find designs for all ages and larger sizes that look stunning. On a shopping trip with my darling buddy last week we ended up walking out after trying on most of the store and a lot of bags in her hands. So I figured for the fuller figure ladies I'd let you know of City Chic's fabulous range! Watch the behind the scenes clip below to see what else these gals got up too.

Simple Makeup

Sometimes simple can be wonderful. Not so long ago I woke up feeling a bit tired and in need of a pick me up. So off to the wardrobe to pick out my favorite dress, then time for makeup. I went with the English rose look, which was very simple. After foundation and a light pink highlighter it was latte colored eyeshadow and a pink/plum lipstick. Of course a healthy dose of mascara, eyeliner and my favorite pick me up ..... 3/4 false lashes. And there you have it, a simple look in 20 mins.

Sometimes simple is best

This little piggy.....

Now I always seem to have pockets of loose change at the end of the day which usually end up scattered around my house. But not anymore, thanks to a very sweet reader I was sent this super cute two toned purple piggy bank from Howard's storage. I think I've found the perfect home for the "new shoes/dress" fund.

This little piggy went shopping.....

Pink Ribbon Day

Pink Ribbon Day

Good Morning all and happy Pink Ribbon Day! If your not sure what I'm talking about it is the Australian Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon Day which aims to help raise awareness about breast cancer, as well as raise funds towards research, education and patient support programs.

This year alone around 12,000 Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. By
purchasing pink products, or by buying a pink gift yourself, you can help Cancer Council to support special women in your life who have been touched by Breast Cancer. So I urge you all if you see a pink product to pick it up and purchase. These include ribbons, bracelets, pens even Dove have pink soaps and body sprays that are giving back to the cancer council.

So think PINK for today and be sure to tell all the women in your life just how much you love them.

Euchronia

File:Kyle-cassidy-steampunk.jpg

As we head to the end of the year the question of "what are you doing for new years eve?" are cropping up. This year I will put down the rockabilly clothing and embrace my goth/steampunk side; which means I will be heading to Euchronia. What on earth is Euchronia you may ask, well its a steampunk / neo-Victorian Year's End Ball held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Euchronia first took place in 2008 and will return to amaze and astound again on the 31st of December, 2010. The event will open for general admission at 9pm and proceedings will continue 'til the early hours of the following morning.
But firstly let me explain a little about what Steampunk is. Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history and speculative fiction. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain —that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H.G Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history.

The venue for 2010 is a breathtakingly grand former power station only very recently re-purposed as an events venue:The Substation, Newport. The building features a perfect blend of history and modern facilities to delight both neo-Victorian enthusiasts and discerning event-goers of every stripe.

Euchronia, from the Greek eu (good) and chronos (time), promises a fine evening of musical and terpsichorean pursuits: a good time for all! Euchronia 2010 will feature three main sound-spaces and a number of additional niche spaces, each with a different musical focus. The main stage in the huge Central Hall will host bands, live cabaret-style acts and some DJ'ed music. The Mezzanine floor above will comprise a dedicated dance space featuring a mix of new romantic, gothic fusion, industrial, retro, futuristic, electro and EBM music to keep the dance-obsessed euphoric until the wee small hours. Finally, our Parlour will be a designated relaxation space with a more ambient and laid-back soundscape. In addition Euchronia 2010 introduces a Member's Lounge for the exclusive use of Antipodean League members throughout the evening.

Dress Code: neoVictorian, steampunk, formal black tie/white tie/ballgown, pirate punk, Edwardian, vintage 20's & 30's, fetish, dieselpunk, goth! Think Moulin Rouge, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Golden Compass, Oliver Twist, Sweeney Todd, plus anything and everything in between. (The "code" is not strictly enforced, but guests in jeans and tshirt might feel out of place.

Also I thought I'd let you all know if you fancy a day as a pinup Miss Kitty and the amazing team at the Burlesque Bar will be glad to help out. You can find all the details online and I highly suggest you go for it.

halloween

I adore Spring, and with Spring comes Halloween. Now the aussies don't really celebrate it over here in Melbourne, however I love this holiday. Sure I like the dressing up, candy and make believe for a day. But what I truly love is the old aspect of this holiday. A night where the souls of the living and the dead can be as one. Where everyone who's passed can visit those still alive.

So in honor of this day I am planning a Halloween themed outfit and baking cookies. Ok I might even take in bags of lollies to work for everyone. Come on who doesn't love lollies.

Fat Freddy's at the Forum

Well its that time of year again. Bands on tour, festivals, daylight savings and a huge list of reasons why its time to embrace the spring sun and hit the town. Which all starts with my attendance of a concert at the Forum for Fat Freddy's Drop. This NZ band is making a trip across the water to bring their amazing tunes our way.

So in a few weeks we will all be there and yes there will be photos! So stay tuned!

A bit of girl time

With the Spring racing season in full swing Ms Leelee and I decided to make good use of our days off and hit the shops. Our first port of call was Chaddy to do the basics and of course hit Koko Black for some much needed chocolate. Yes we did end up finding a dress and shoes, however we were on a mission for lingerie and tops. So with a goal in mind it was off to chapel street.

This was a dangerous plan as it ended up. So we ended up in my favorite lingerie store on chapel Bendon, and spent a large time trying all they had to offer. I'm such a sucker for pretty lace things but sadly walked out empty handed. Anyway with a mission in mind we hit the rest of the shops and did find some bargains including a stunning lace retro dress from the local St Vinnies store. At a $1 it would of been a crime to leave it there.

We even ended up at the Chapel street Bazzar and look at this stunning dress below. I admit it was very hard to walk away from but it was just a bit to much.

So with arms full of shopping and tired feet we headed home. Overall a good day and I managed to show another interstate buddy the joys of melbourne shopping!

Modern Retro

These days I often find it hard true vintage in my size, sadly because there aren't always the rockabilly gowns out there I'm after. So in an effort to keep expanding my rockabilly wardrobe I went it hunt of reproductions. What did I find you may ask? Well........

This little number is a red and black bengaline number from Portmans. It was a simple pencil skirt with red bodice and was a lot cheaper than the USA version I found online not so long ago. I've always seemed to stumble across great little retro inspired numbers at Portmans, so while there I did also pick up a sheer cream silk pussy bow shirt and another black pencil skirt. Perfect for my 'school misstress' ala 1950 look or when I fancy a bit of Mad Men office inspired glamour.

Then there was this gem from Friends of Couture. It may look like Alannah Hill but thankfully doesn't have the price tag so it just had to come home with me. Since its a 3/4 sleeve and an open knit its great for spring or when those summer nights have a chill to them. Plus I just love the knitted love heart buttons, how cute!

And lastly I picked up this love bites cami and boxer set from Peter Alexander. Its a light cotton so again great as we head into summer. Plus it also fits my rockabilly feel at the moment. So there you have it 3 modern stores, 3 modern pieces that with the right extras a perfect retro pieces.

Get your motor racing!

With Bathurst on and Sandown coming I'm in V8 heaven at the moment. Not to mention its just been confirmed I have tickets to Sandown which include a walk in Pit Lane! Yep I'm jumping up and down with excitement even though I have to wait till Nov for it all to happen.

However what I don't have to wait till November for is an exciting event on the classic motoring calendar. Its a celebration of classic cars called Motorclassica, being held at the Royal Exhibition Hall and Gardens on the weekend of the 23rd October.

Plus there is a free event open to all Melburnians, theHerald Sun Picnic with the Classics brings together more than 100 classic cars on display in the beautiful Piazza Italia at Argyle Square (Mel: Map 2B:F9), a short 3 minute walk from the Royal Exhibition Building. Families will be encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and spend the day out amongst these displays courtesy of some of Victoria’s 300-odd specialist motoring clubs.

Herald Sun Picnic with the Classics will be open free to the public on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October 2010 and is proudly supported by City of Melbourne.

So put on your best outfit and come join us for some food, cars and fun in October.

Just a quick one, here is the latest color and design done by my favorite nail tech Ms Jeni. We thought we'd go for a bright purple for spring with a bit of sparkle. Simple but groovy!

I needed a giggle

Apart from my love of rockabilly and vintage I am a big geek. I adore anime, computers, games and role playing which is why I fell about of the floor laughing watching Tripod Vs the dragon in their D&D inspired comedy. However my current favorite 'pro-geek' show is Big Bang theory.

So with the latest series release in my hot little hand I started to watching and to my joy the famous Sheldon going 'Bazinga in ball pit' was on it. If you don't what I'm talking about have a look.

Angels

This weekend I was invited to the Melbourne Heaven and Hell fancy dress party. I decided to go as an angel and was inspired by Baz Lurhmans Romeo and Juilet. There will be more photos to come, however I thought I might post the beginning shots of my make up. I was lucky enough to be loaned a stunning floor length white gown with lots of fluffy layers. My BFF Ms Midnight came as a fallen angel complete with black wings and we even (under much persuasion) entered the 'best dressed' competition, sadly we didn't win but we did seem to get a good cheer from the crowd.

I'm now off to pack away my wings......lucky I've got my pixie dust.

A bit of Pixie dust

When it comes to fairies that have the mix of cheekiness, cute and magic no one does it better than Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. So imagine my joy and surprise when I was given this super cute Tinkerbell bracelet.

My joy went into overload when after closer inspection I found it came with its own bottle of pixie dust! I don't think you every get to old to believe in fairies as we all need a bit of magic in our lives don't we girls and boys.

Weat Side Story

Today I was lucky enough to be invited to see the new production of West Side Story currently on at the Regent theatre in Melbourne. It was a beautiful day in the city and full of AFL fans waiting for the grand final rematch so the city was buzzing. In my mind the perfect atmosphere for a bit of musical theatre.

Now I've been a fan of this musical since I was a small child. With its connection to the 1950s, Romeo and Juliet it has always inspired me. Not to mention a few years ago now I was lucky enough to actually work as part of the backstage crew for the Gold Coast, QLD production. So it wasn't a hard as to attend. It was a wonderful production and I guess you could say it had been modernized a little. With the costumes a bit less 50's and more just inspired by the era. A few songs had been reworked a little, I'm not so sure about that aspect though. But overall a great way to spend the afternoon.

I was only sent a link for this mock West Side Story however its called Web Site Story. Watch and you'll see what I mean. I'm now off to throw on a few petticoats and dance around the house.
