Happy Hottest 100 Day!!!!

Firstly CONGRATS to Gotye with Somebody that I used to know taking out the top stop in todays Hottest 100.

OK so many people around this country of mine are walking around wearing aussie flags, drinking and BBQing all in the name of Australia day. Well for me personally (and a bunch of others) today is the day where we celebrate the music of the last 12 months with Triple J's Hottest 100. Sure I may have spent a large portion of it at work but yep we had the radio tuned to Triple J and trying to guess which bands got in.

People often think technology is a bad thing but thanks to smart phones, internet music streaming and the net in general I have had the hottest 100 music playing all day!!!!!! People are listening all around the work, even my mates in Japan are!!!!

I've spoken about this day before but just in case you still don't know what I'm talking about here is a little history

"triple j's hottest 100 is one of the largest public music polls in the world with millions of individual votes counted since it's inception in 1989. Originally listeners were asked to compile a list of their favourite songs of all time and mail them to triple j. Diligent triple j staffers then tallied these votes by hand! Today things have been greatly simplified behind the scenes, with all voting cast using either SMS or online.

Joy Division topped the first hottest 100 with the classic "Love Will Tear Us Apart". The seminal British band stayed on top for successive years until a band called Nirvana released a little tune by the name of "Smells like Teen Spirit" in '91. The focus of the Hottest 100 changed after these early years limiting the voting selection to songs released in the previous 12 months. Since the change, Australian artists have featured prominently with Spiderbait, The Whitlams, Powderfinger ,Alex Lloyd and Jet all having taken the coveted number one position. " taken from Triple J Homepage www.abc.net.au/triplej

Normally for my friends (online and in person) and I its a day of games like seeing who can guess the most correct entries, who gets number 1; bbq's, drinks and general fun sadly like I said before I was at work. However I did manage to get home for a cocktail and get to hear the top 10 with friends.

So how did I go you may ask in my guess well I didn't get a complete top 10 but some of my fave songs made it onto the list.

VHRA Hot Rod Show

Last weekend was the annual VHRA Hot Rod Show, a must go to for my calender and a great excuse to dress up extra special. After a fashion crisis which was solved by people voting on facebook for the outfit I was to wear (this actually worked really well maybe I should do it ever big event LOL) it was time to head out.

So I figured I share some of the photos with you, as always there were stunning cars that made me want one of each. So great to see so many car fans out and about for a great day, as well as getting the chance to catch up with some friends. All in all a great day.

A happy pre-valentines day for all

As January draws to a close I find myself marking of the calender getting excited for Wednesday 8th February 2012. Nope its not a birthday, anniversary or anything like that; in fact its the day that Dita Von Teese lingerie range is released in Target stores across the nation just in time for Valentines day.

With range that captures her signature style you will be able to find just the right mix of iconic vintage styles, sizes for lots of different body types and a reasonable price. Who could ask for more for Valentines day. Ok so maybe having the range delivered to you with a bottle of Moet but hey lets get back to reality. So all we need now is for Target to start stocking Dita's stockings as well. Well a girl can dream.......See you at Target

The JaneDear Girls

I was searching youtube.com the other night looking for new makeup and hair tutorials and I came across a young lady names Suzie Brown. After watching a great little clip I decided to have a look at what else she had put up and I came across her band The JaneDear Girls. If you haven't heard of these gals they are a country duo consisting of Susie Brown (vocals, mandolin, fiddle, bass, guitar, accordion) and Danelle Leverett (vocals, guitar, banjo, harmonica).

Their music is a bit country and a bit rocknroll which suits my current mood perfectly, not to mention I love Suzie's style. So after watching a few clips I figured I'd share and of course you can purchase their album on itunes if your interested. So grab your cowboy boots, gingham shirt and hit that dance floor!!!

My darling friend MsBel local artist and all round super gal surprised me with one her creations. Its a stunning, vibrant skull cross stitch!!!! Only problem is where do I hang it; so many choices and I want everyone to see it. So to start the sharing I figured I'd share it with you all here.

Now many people say the internet is a bad thing but I adore the idea of flashmobs that break into dance or freeze frame like this STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™ - Times Square Freeze Mob 12.20.11.

Music Review Time - Barry M

With my hair in rockabilly curls and bright red lips its time that I declare my LOVE for my new album from my favorite Australian Singer Songwriter Barry Michael. Now long time readers will know that my love affair with Barry's music has been a long time thing, ok so I've been a fan since the 1980's but really what's time when your in love.

Well as you can see above I have in my hot little hands a copy of his latest album I Am Your Sky (iTunes) which I do suggest you grab. Why you may ask????? Well because apart from being fabulous (yep major fan here and fingers crossed I can get a chance to tell him this in person) its a great album full of songs that make you want to dance and sing out loud too. There are some wonderful tracks like "can't we get along" that make you want to dance around the house regardless of who's watching. There may be some footage taken by my friends of me dancing around the garden to this song in very 60's style moves. Think Brian Setzer meets Elvis meets Paul Kelly!!!!

Then there are the songs that pull at your heart like "Over You" but not in that sad emo way, more like "I'm sad about this but that's ok" sort of a way. There is something in these tracks that speak more hidden meanings the more you listen to them. As I write this I am listening to the track "I have always loved you" which just makes you smile and want to hug your friends and family.

Oh and the title track "I am your sky" (which is a love song) speaks to me on many levels. Personally I hear it as more than just love of another person, for me its about a love that hides in everything we do. And with that said I will leave you to enjoy the title track of the new release and please jump onto itunes and buy this. SUPPORT LOCAL ARTISTS!!!!!!
