I'm ready for my close up

Now I spend a large amount of time doing my make up and hair, so it is really nice to be spoilt and have someone do it for me. There are always times when having a professional do the work is worth the extra coin. So while I’ve been getting ready for modeling shots and practicing what styles we were going to do I thought about al the other times I’ve had it done.

You always have the choice of hiring a makeup artist that comes to you or going to them, or even popping instore to cosmetic retailer. Feel free to ask questions about, price and what you get for your money. Some counters in stores charge a fee that is redeemable on product which means you can walk away with your lippie and powder ready for touch ups.

If you have a particular make up brand you like go and talk to them, tell them what you already have and they may be able to use what you already have in a new way. It is also good to go and visit your make up counter every six months or so to see what new styles are in and to see if you should change any product. Personally I seem to change my foundation yearly as my skin changes. I stand by the golden rule ïf you don’t ask you don’t get” so getting asking.
Tips for choosing a good make up artist:
Be honest, if you don’t like it tell them
Tell them if you have any skin or allergies, as you want to look your best not have a reaction
Take images with you for the look your after
Ask what style of make up they have trained in, bridal, photography, glamour
Try and bring samples of your outfit colors because they may be able to suggest eyeshow that compliment or enhance your outfit.
Ask if you can either bring you own lippie or buy one as you may want to touch up as the night goes on
Remember they are artist not miracle works, and as much as we’d all love them to take of ten years it is only make up and they do the best they can.

Cherries & Made By C

Sweet Cherry Necklace and Earrings by Made By C
Lady Luck Shirt by Sitch Witch
Sunglasses by Portmans

I do love my rockabilly style especially when it comes to my jewellery. As you can see I have gone for the classic red and black, as well as cherries. This is a great style as you can put your own twist on it.

Must admit there is nothing i find better than finding a local gal who can use simple pieces that capture the vibe I'm after. I wear a few pieces from Made By C, and have to giggle when I see simple pieces in mass produced stores like Diva.

So I guess what I'm really trying to say is keep your eyes open for the indpendant designers, online and in that big wide world of ours. A great little web site (apart from Etsy) is Shanalogic , where you can find all manner of things from T-shirts to necklaces from all around the world.

Washi Blossom Ring - Red & Jet
I just have to list a few more images of the amazing pieces for your lust worthy attention.

So I can only urge everyone to get clicking and see what treasures you can source for christmas and birthday presents. Happy looking

The Melbourne Princess

Ok so its not lingerie based but todays entry is about beauty. Recently in the frosty streets of Melbourne Ms Tiki Doll decided it was time to get some Mendhi done. As a fan of this for many years it was an easy decision. For those of you who are unsure what I'm talking about Mendhi (also Mehandi, Mehendi, etc.) is the application of Henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in South Asia, Southwest Asia, North Africa and the Horn of Africa, as well as by expatriate communities from these areas. Mehendi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are sometimes called henna tattoos. Henna is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and festivals. It is usually drawn on the palms and feet, where the color will be darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin which binds temporarily to lawsone, the colorant of henna. Henna was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.

So in the festive spirit I offered up my hand to be done and here are the results. I must say I'm rather pleased and think I will be investing in some more in many different places. Plus I am investigating getting some paste myself to start practising designs

Its time to open the diary and book in your attendance to Charm School

But what is it I hear your asking. Mistress Chrissy says

We are about keeping the traditions of our foremothers alive... Pedi Pleasure

Winter may be the time we cover up however this is no time to forget about our beauty regimes.

So today my darlings we are going to look at how to do a basic pedicure at home
You’re going to need a small list of supplies at hand to perform the perfect pedicure. Remember to clean and dry the pedicure tools after each use. This not only keeps items clean and more effective, but it also helps prevent possible infections.

You’ll need a large basin to fill with water and soak your feet. For the best results, you want some sort of antiseptic, cleanser or moisturizing product mixed into the foot soaking water. If you really want to pamper yourself, make sure whatever you add to the water also smells wonderful.

A towel should be nearby for drying your feet. One of the best parts of a pedicure is getting rid of all that dry, dead skin, so make sure to buy a foot file or pumice stone. Use an exfoliating body or foot scrub and a foot file or a wet pumice stone and remove the dead on the balls and heels of your feet. The idea is the smooth and not the remove. If your foot is turning bright red then stop. This means that you are scrubbing too hard.

Next remove old nail polish completely. Using cotton balls leaves traces of cotton on your nails try using cotton bands instead. Soak the cotton band with acetone remover and remove the old polish. If the color is not coming off the press the cotton on to the nail and let it soak for a while.

It is always best to use high quality clippers to cut your toenails. Cut your nails straight across, leaving about 1/8″ of length. Do not let your nail extend over the tip of your toe.

For a soft square shape, file the nail around the corners in one direction. Use emory boards and not metal files, as metal files rip nails. The smoother surface is for smoothing the nail edge while the coarser surface is for shortening and shaping nails.

Apply cuticle remove to the base of each nail and rub in. Wait for a minute and then using an orangewood stick, slowly push the skin back where it meets the nail.

Dry your feet thoroughly including between the toes and apply nourishing foot cream; a super-intense moisturizing lotion is also required to help heal your newly cleaned skin. Rub the feet and rehydrate cuticles by rubbing a little cuticle oil.

Use an acetone remover to get rid of the extra oils on the nails. Apply a thin base coat and using three strokes, one down the middle and one on each side. Do not paint cuticles. Apply three coats totally and then apply a thin topcoat. Use orangewood stick wrapped in cotton dipped in nail polish remover to remove excess nail polish

Let your nails dry completely before you wear shoes. OPI polish

Frosty Morning

Are you a morning person? I know I’m not but there are some things on these frosty Melbourne mornings that can make them worthwhile getting up for. Usually I focus on beauty and lingerie but in light of the colder weather I thought it was time to look at ways to warm up.

Peter Alexander Quilt Set

Firstly the stealing an extra 15 minutes snuggling under the quilt covers. I admit that even this lover of the silky things in life does love the ability to have flannelette sheets on the bed at the moment. Currently I have navy blue stars flannelette sheets from Morgan and Finch on the bed with the stunning Peter Alexander Navy quit cover which is detailed by navy sequins on the main body of the quilt.

So once you’ve managed to drag yourself out of the warmth its time to get a spring in your step with a warming breakfast. Now if your like me the idea of ceral does nohomewares_10_bigt inspire the appetite then winter offers a few yummy morsals instead. To get you going a couple of toasted English muffins covered in butter and honey will always warm you up. Then of course there is always the wonderful porridge covered in cinnamon and apple pieces. But what to drink, for some its coffee all the way and for others juice. For me the only thing is Tea.

There is nothing better than travelling around the world in one cup. With a crisp lemon herbal to start and get the body awake followed by a traditional English breakfast to get ready for the day.

But what to wear…..

Easy PJ’s from my favourite designer Peter Aleaxander. Right now I’m decked out head to toe in his winter range (more photos to follow), with flannelette pants in pastal colours and a light pink long sleeve waffle top with of course the needed home boots.

So now that the days started I will head off for my cuppa and see you tomorrow for more winter sleepwear.
