So I have the first batch of photos from the weekend. All photos here are by Allan King Photography.
Some images were just using what was around, so simple location shots. Which were interesting as you never know what your going to get. As well as learning the most important lesson that you may not get what you think out of the camera but its amazing what you can do with a post editing program. For instance all that was done to the shot above was soften the background.
Then we tried to recreate, in sorts, some images. Above is the image of Amanda Plamer that we tired, and the result below. Then there was the attempt at the vogue image. I still have issues seeing some images of myself, but it was well worth the effort to get some of these images. Again a big thank you to Allan for these shots!
Sometimes we forget that scents can be vintage. As women most of us think of 'vintage' scents as Channel no. 5, however Old Spice for men was released in 1938 which in mine mind makes it a vintage scent. Most people would think of Old Spice as a scent our grandfathers would wear, but this new ad is turning the Old Spice into the scent of a new generation.
If you don't know what I'm talking about have a watch of this link and see what i mean. I don't no why but it just works. So have a watch, a laugh and maybe rethink that old image of Old Spice you once had.
Well what a long and wonderful weekend! I've spent the last two days out in the freezing cold of Ballarat being part of a photo workshop as a model. I had actually forgotten how long those days can be. As a model we start first and finish last so saturday was a start at 8am and we wrapped up about 9pm, then of course a BBQ and catch up followed. Then sunday with 8am start and wrap-up about 6pm. Which did mean I was up at 6am to start my own hair and makeup before heading to the location to help with other models hair and makeup. At least I got to practice my skills on a few different skin types to help increase my skills.
Firstly a big thanks to the great host's Peter and Rose. Next a thanks goes to the models like Ms SugarPlumFairy and Ms Midnight for great laughs as well as being able to use my makeup skills on you gals. As well as a thanks to the other models (sorry I've forgotten a lot of names) Ms Jess, Ms Sandra, Ms Taya, Rouge, Ms K. And of course thanks to the photographers for coming, sharing your visions and working with us.

So overall after some very long days, its time to come back to Melbourne and hit fashion week. No rest for the wicked hey! I will post some images once I get them all cleaned up from the photographers so you can see some of what we got up to.
But for now I'm off to bed and dream of what fashion week may hold!
A quick sneak peak for all you corset lovers and lingerie fans of the new range The Dollhouse is stocking. This new - soon to open its doors to all - Melbourne store has a fantastic range of stockings, corsets, dresses and extras.
There is a style for almost everyone. So whether you wish to channel your Inner Pinup, Gothic Goddess or cheeky gal next door you will find what your after. Like this stunning number. A great piece for anyone wanting a 'basic' corset.
Or maybe you need a set of wings to prove your an angel, or to finish off that outfit for christmas. Or maybe a cute retro number with just the right amount of cheek?
As soon as I have more details I will let you all know where to go and what's on offer.
The wonderful Bakerella has finally released a book for all us fans of her amazing cake pops. So far its planned to be launched in the USA in september but you can find it on Amazon for all you international readers.
With great images the Cake Pops Book is a great addition to any kitchen, especially with the step by step guide. A wonderful reference for cooks like myself who like a bit of virtual hand holding when cooking something new for the first time.
If you love pinups, burlesque or simply stunning women then book your tickets for the upcoming Miss Pinup Australia competition.

Now being a bit of a goth gal its very odd to my friends when I embrace pink. After the addition of my new Stop Staring pink and black dress I thought I'd see what cute little pink numbers could be also be lurking out there for me to find. This is what I came across.

Now I love a good beauty product, but sometimes the budget isn't always there. However I have over the last few months discovered a good and low price company called BYS for my make up addiction. So far I've picked up and used eyeshadows, lipstick, lip gloss, eyeliner and false lashes all at bargain prices.
My lastest splurge was $14.95 on the following products. New red lipstick in crimson joy, red lip liner #9 and black magic eyeliner, as well as a new eyeliner brush. So yes you can still have what you want at a lower price.
So what is the result of these products you may ask...because we all know that cheap doesn't always mean good. I've had nothing but good luck with the BYS products so far, including their false lashes.
What do you think? I'm also wearing BYS false lashes and peach rose blush. Not bad for under $30 of make up.
Well its late on a friday night and no I'm not hitting the town. In fact I'm sitting with my hair in curlers trying to get some extra bounce for tomorrow's photo shoot.
Over the next two weeks I will find myself in a 1950's dreamland as I pose for photos in all my retro gear. First off its at the Burlesque Bar and next weekend Ballarat, so this little gal is preparing for a lot of hairspray, false lashes and pouting red lips. As soon as I get some images I will post and show you all. However the issue I'm having now is what to take with me. Its a bit hard to pack your entire wardrobe, just in case, so I've chosen a few key pieces and fingers crossed they will work. So I'm off to rest and wake up as a little pinup doll tomorrow.
Sometimes you can't find what you want in the stores when you are looking at the vintage styles quiet simply because pieces get lost, damaged etc. This is when it may be time to drag out the old sewing machine or head to your nearest seamstress.
But this also brings up the issue of what to make it from and not all fabric stores have what you want. This is where Retro Age Fabrics comes in, a super cool online store that stocks great vintage material for all your sewing needs.
So next find the pattern....i have managed to pick up some great ones from op shops, markets and even the re-release of patterns by such fashion houses as Vogue from Spotlight.
As soon as I get a piece a finished I will post it up here (assuming it looks ok). So keep your eyes peeled for a gem in that old collection of papers and fabrics in stores. Happy sewing!
If you go down to the woods today your in for a big surprise....there are polar bears and dragons! Well that's what I found when I made my way to Build a Bear with a voucher in hand. For those of you who don't know Build a bear is a kids shop where you get to create your own bear from scratch so each bear that leaves is personally designed and yes a bit of fun.
Step 1. Find a furry friend that makes you smile. For me it was this super cute dragon and fluffy white polar bear. As you can see to start with they have no filling so its a great time to check out the faces and feel of these new super cute friends. They have bears, monkeys, dragons, horses, dogs and cats to choose from all with their own unique charm and cuddleness. Step 2. Once you have chosen your animal you get to choose how soft or firm the filling is so you can get just the right amount of cuddle factor from them. You also get to give them a heart which as a microchip meaning if you do loose your new friend and they find their way back to the Build a bear stores you will be called to pick up your lost friend.
Step 3. SHOPPING! From here you can play dress ups with your new pal. I went for cute little dresses for my polar bear, but you can choose anything from sports uniforms or even Star Wars costumes.
May the force be with you
Step 4. Once dressed you get to name them, and you even get a birth certificate for them. HOW CUTE!!!!! My dragon became Firebug and the bear Snowdrop.
Step 5. Home time for your new friends. They even come with their own little cubby house (box) all ready for you to color in and make your own. So I'm now off to introduce the lastest additions to my other bears and have a much needed cup of tea.
Ok so I embraced my inner child today, but hey if you can't be a kid now and then whats the point. If you don't think you can go get your niece, nephew etc and use them as the excuse for a bit of fun.
The modern world like to take inspiration from the past and these classic little numbers from Bendon are no exception.
"The company revolutionised the lingerie industry with a radical approach to design. Rather than force women’s bodies in the restrictive corsetry of the time, the company looked at the way the body moved and pioneered lingerie that could ‘bend on’ the body." according to Bendon team
Personally I just adore these prints that are just the right mix of woman and girl. Not to mention TEMPTRESS! So go and check out your local lingerie stores for these great designs.
I'm a gal who lives in the best city for fashion, food and art.
I adore fashion from a multitude of eras with a weakness for goth, rockabilly, 1950 vintage, neo-victorian.
Lingerie is another weakness and I strongly believe that the right lingerie can change your day. For me its the foundation of your mood and outfit.
