Sunday Craft-a-noon

After a few hours of sorting out my craft room - formally known as the room of boxes - I decided it was time to reward myself with a bit of a craft-a-noon.

Last year at the Melbourne Craft Show I came across a few really cool pieces which were wooden cutouts in the shapes of dress makers models, cogs and corsets. I've been trying for ages to figure out which project I could use them for. Needless to say as I dug through boxes it all started coming together.....

I managed to lay my hands on some basic black craft paper, Kaiserkraft - dressprint cardstock, my wood cutouts and my basic black A4 frames I had left over from my Vintage Vogue project. This was another very easy project to do and really you could do any theme you like, you just need the bits LOL

All I did was cut out and A4 size backing with the black cardstock; then added a small rectangle of the dressprint cardstock. After that it was an easy task to simply glue in place the wood cutouts.

Then pop into the simple frames and its done. Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to hang the pieces. My first instinct is in the craft room, so that's were I'm sure they'll end up, it just depends on the wall space once I've finished my other projects for that room.

So watch this space for more updates on the craft room.

If you go down to the woods today......

If you go down to the woods today your in for a big surprise....there are polar bears and dragons! Well that's what I found when I made my way to Build a Bear with a voucher in hand. For those of you who don't know Build a bear is a kids shop where you get to create your own bear from scratch so each bear that leaves is personally designed and yes a bit of fun.

Step 1. Find a furry friend that makes you smile. For me it was this super cute dragon and fluffy white polar bear. As you can see to start with they have no filling so its a great time to check out the faces and feel of these new super cute friends. They have bears, monkeys, dragons, horses, dogs and cats to choose from all with their own unique charm and cuddleness.
Step 2. Once you have chosen your animal you get to choose how soft or firm the filling is so you can get just the right amount of cuddle factor from them. You also get to give them a heart which as a microchip meaning if you do loose your new friend and they find their way back to the Build a bear stores you will be called to pick up your lost friend.

Step 3. SHOPPING! From here you can play dress ups with your new pal. I went for cute little dresses for my polar bear, but you can choose anything from sports uniforms or even Star Wars costumes.

May the force be with you

Step 4. Once dressed you get to name them, and you even get a birth certificate for them. HOW CUTE!!!!! My dragon became Firebug and the bear Snowdrop.

Step 5. Home time for your new friends. They even come with their own little cubby house (box) all ready for you to color in and make your own. So I'm now off to introduce the lastest additions to my other bears and have a much needed cup of tea.

Ok so I embraced my inner child today, but hey if you can't be a kid now and then whats the point. If you don't think you can go get your niece, nephew etc and use them as the excuse for a bit of fun.

I need a craft room

While on my travels I came across these delights! And all I could think of was just where am I going to store all these delights!

With the addition to my house of a new sewing machine it seems only right that I create a craft room. Although I do have the sneaking suspicion that this room may start leaking out into others. As we all know how it is…”I’ll just finish this seam while I’m watching tv” or “I’ll just cut this pattern out in the hallway as its longer than the sewing room”. Oh well I guess that’s part of it.

Now I just need to start storing all my craft projects, ribbons and material this neatly. Fingers crossed.

Craft Fair

On yet another chilly afternoon I decided to indulge my crafty side by going to the Craft and Quilt Expo at the Convention Centre. So once all dressed in my vintage green dress I headed into the city to see what treasures I could find.....

And boy what treasures did I find. Apart from workshops and master classes there were so many stalls and the Quilt expo. Which did make it very hard to figure out what to look at first!

After walking around the quilt expo (pictures to come) I headed for the work shop and stalls. So many pretty things just waiting to be made and taken home it was very hard for me not to buy one of everything. So I thought hard about what I was after and went thru the fantastic tutorials from Violet Le Beaux to think about what groovy bits of art I could make once home.

I managed to figure out my main aims such as keys, ribbons and sparkles. Then the hunt began and oh boy did I find some treats. Chances are if your looking for something for that latest craft project go into the Craft & Quilt Fair this weekend and start hunting.

See I wasn't the only one who just couldn't stay away!
