Get your motor racing!

With Bathurst on and Sandown coming I'm in V8 heaven at the moment. Not to mention its just been confirmed I have tickets to Sandown which include a walk in Pit Lane! Yep I'm jumping up and down with excitement even though I have to wait till Nov for it all to happen.

However what I don't have to wait till November for is an exciting event on the classic motoring calendar. Its a celebration of classic cars called Motorclassica, being held at the Royal Exhibition Hall and Gardens on the weekend of the 23rd October.

Plus there is a free event open to all Melburnians, theHerald Sun Picnic with the Classics brings together more than 100 classic cars on display in the beautiful Piazza Italia at Argyle Square (Mel: Map 2B:F9), a short 3 minute walk from the Royal Exhibition Building. Families will be encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and spend the day out amongst these displays courtesy of some of Victoria’s 300-odd specialist motoring clubs.

Herald Sun Picnic with the Classics will be open free to the public on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October 2010 and is proudly supported by City of Melbourne.

So put on your best outfit and come join us for some food, cars and fun in October.

i went to Radelaide and all i got was this lousy car!

While away a buddy went car shopping and they assure me that this Mazda is a classic. Personally its not me but it got me thinking about cars and how everyone has an era. Personally I like my 1950's and early 1960's american cars, but that's just me. A few buddies have gotten into collection 'classic' 1970/80's japanese cars and this was there latest find. A Mazda 929, in mint condition as its been garaged for the last 20 years and came with original documents.

So I guess you could say 'classic' is in the eye of the collector.

My One and Only

On another afternoon filled with tea and cake I managed to watch My One and Only starring Renee Zellweger. Its a great little story and so easy to get lost in the fashion. Oh the fashion! Every outfit is stunning and yes I did have a bit of wardrobe envy.

So whats the story....
The beautiful but mercurial Ann Devereaux (Renée Zellweger) has just left her philandering husband Dan Devereaux (Kevin Bacon), a society bandleader, and taken to the road with her teenage sons, George (Logan Lerman) and Robbie (Mark Rendall), in search of a wealthy replacement mate. Although it's 1953, Ann is certain that her girlish charms will serve her as well as they did two decades earlier. But time has marched on since Ann's courting days, and it seems that the losers and playboys outnumber the eligible and willing bachelors. Ann never gives up hope, but a series of new schools for the boys, ever more humble lodgings and romantic misadventures start to take the gloss off their trip. Yet Ann is indefatigable, her pride matched by the flighty enthusiasm of her older son Robbie, a flamboyant boy who believes he is meant for a life on the stage, and the cynical wit of George, an observant aspiring writer. As the miles roll by, their journey veers from eccentric, to hair rising, to poignant, to comic. From her impulsive choices to the downright bizarre characters they meet on the road, Ann steers her sons on a narrow highway between excitement and panic. But ultimately, George discovers the determination, dignity and love underneath his mothers narcissistic exterior. And Ann makes a different future for herself and her sons than any of them had imagined.

Countdown

In less than a month (approx 21 days but who’s counting) I’m heading up to Queensland for one of my favorite events WINTERSUN. Running from the 4th to 14th June on the Coolangatta beachfront it is Australia's Leading Rock & Roll Nostalgia Retro Event, hence the excitement.

This year it includes:
Street Parade of floats, bands and fun on Saturday 12th June starting in North Kirra at 9:45 AM

Hot Rod, Classic & Custom Car Show in the parks and streets of Coolangatta with about 1500 cars on show all day Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June.

Live entertainment in the parks and streets of Coolangatta with about 80 bands and performers all day Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June.

Hot Rod, Classic & Custom Car cruises on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM cruising the beachfront

And best of all *drum roll please*

Nicole Jenkins of Crica Vintage will be showing her amazing collection of vintage swimsuits

Plus joy for all many events are free, some are in the streets while others are in the local clubs and shopping centre’s. So really anyone who wants to soak up some of the amazing vibe that Wintersun brings can walk on down.

Fingers crossed its warm enough for me to jump into one of Nicoles divine pieces, if your not sure what I’m talking about here is a little glimpse at some of the selection that was on show at the Ballarat Heritage Exhibition a couple of weekends ago.

So I’m off to find some subtle fake tan and some super shoes, and maybe attempt to pack. Just to see how much is really going with me. See you in GC in June!

Planning for Wintersun

Ok so its no where near june but with all the air fare specials on my mind has turned to one of my fav times of year WinterSun!!!!!! It doesn't hurt that the Victorian hot rod show is on next weekend. http://www.hotrod.com.au/ Yes I know I just go to drool over the cars but they are SO BEAUTIFUL!

Now growing up on the Gold Coast this was one of the few times when I could indulge myself in the cars, fashion, makeup and music of the 40's 50's and 60's.

And it did make me a feel a little bit more normal being surrounded by all the colour and passion about the time. Sure I may have been the young one who could have been mistaken for being dragged by her father (ok so the first year that was true but once there i was addicted).

So I'm looking at flights and lodgings; plus the most important things WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR????? Time to start ordering from the US and getting in front of that sewing machine. Brace yourself GC your little rockabilly is on her way back!

Plus it doesn't hurt that there will be a burlesque night as well. Oh well I guess I'll just have to force myself to go ;)
