If i only could get this to wear next weekend

From the stunning gals at What Katie Did comes this stunning little number from theirvintage style swimsuit range. With all the style and charm of mid-century swimwear, but unlike its predecessors, is suitable to be immersed in both chlorine and salt water! The fully-lined Sailor swimsuit has a supportive, halterneck top, shaped cups and an authentic, skirted bottom that manages to be slimming to larger posteriors, but create curves in smaller ones!

I think I may need this for wintersun....what do you think

declutter your life - wallets

As we head towards winter we get that urge to horde and build the clutter around ourselves, which of course leads to the spring clean where we get rid of it all. However this year I’ve decided not to wait to spring but to de-clutter my life now in the hope that I open my world up to let new things and experiences in, not just hang onto what I’ve got. I figured I share it with you and start with the easy stuff first.

THE WALLET

If your like me you have an average size wallet, which never seems to be big enough. It’s not strange to have a wallet that has more receipts, business cards, loyalty cards and stamps than actual money in it. Now is the time to really think about what you NEED!. Yep, I said it. What do you need in your wallet, and what should really be taken out at the end of each day.

Why bother you may ask? Firstly we just collect clutter and it is good to release this; and secondly think about the life of your wallet. If its not bulging at the seems with junk and 5cent pieces how much longer can you keep that great wallet you spent ages hunting for. So how do you do this? Because of course you really need that collection of coffee loyalty cards with 1 stamp on each of them, and how do you get rid of all those coins. Ok ladies lets get the wallets out and start.

Essentials – EFTPOS/Credit Cards, Medicare and Health Fund Cards, driver’s license, Cash – notes and small collection of coins and in my opinion a picture of someone/animal/thing you love (as this can help when tossing up needs Vs wants when shopping plus it never hurts to have a reminder of the love that’s in your)

Apart from that the rest is clutter. Empty every pocket, zipped section and card holding space to really see what’s in there. You would be surprised with what we collect.

Taking the weight out can be as simple as getting rid of all those coins. You have a couple of options (I do both) have a jar at home and every couple of days empty as many of the small coins as you can. Just leaving the bigger ones for coffee’s/parking meters or train fare. This way when you have a lot in the jar you can take them to the bank and swap them for bigger coins or even notes. The other is to have a small coin purse for all the small coins all, which again you can get rid of at the bank.

Next is to have a look at the cards you have. If you have a lot of coffee cards take them to your coffee shops and see if they can be put onto one card. Be honest, how many times have you been back to that coffee shop. This also works for stores loyalty cards. Check for expiry dates, for instance some stores ‘bonus’ schemes are time dependant, so watch those dates.

Then go through all your receipts, notes and be ruthless. If they are really receipts you need to keep create a proper file at home for these (no a shoe box is not one) this way if you need the receipt you can actually find it.

So how you going? Feeling a bit lighter? I know my wallet is. The main thing with this cleaning is to do it every few days and you’d be surprised how often you’ll have money not just junk in your wallet. Happy cleaning!

how cute

When I was younger my school friends and I had a demented tradition at the end of every school year where we would go and get our photo’s taken together. We would get changed, head into Surfers Paradise, QLD and go to an arcade parlor for our tradition. The first lot we’d always take were the little black and white ones in those photo booths that you put in $5, get 4 poses and then a print photo strip. Ok so far not weird, but the second lot we’d get were no ordinary photos; these ones were done in “Ye olde time costumes”. So now I have this demented collection of myself and friends growing up in high school in outfits ranging from western saloon girls to prim and proper Victorian ladies. Nothing funnier than seeing yourself at 16 dressed as a western saloon girl with two of your mates. I should have known back then that these photos were the beginning of my love for historical fashion.

Anyway after reading another blog I was inspired to drag a couple of my current Victorian friends out to a photo booth place in the centre of Melbourne to reenact my past of sorts. However instead of going “Ye Olde Time” photos we went for crazy Japanese style instead, hence my current indulgence with the gothic Lolita and Hime Garu styles. What is all this craziness you may ask? Well you jump into a booth, select the background you want, pose and then draw/add stars/cats ears/words what ever you want to the image. Sort of like a form of digital scrap booking. I’ll scan and upload in a bit of our photos, but I have to stop laughing first at them first.

For those of you who don’t have access you can jump online at my new favorite website Puricute and upload your own photos to do the same; like these ones. Perfect for all you princess out there.

Dior, Chanel, Louis, Names, names, names darling

I thought I’d go for something a little different this week; so instead of color and art I’ve gone for stenciled tips. I’m still not quiet sure if I like them or not, but they are certainly different.
Each one has the Louis Vuitton logo (or a close approximation to it) with similar stars you find on the bags.
I was tossing up between the black, pink or multi colored, but decided the black was the simplest. Now if I can just some vintage Chanel maybe it can work?

A little bit of pixie dust

I just had to add this. I was recently asked why my work space is so dull and only full of papers and notices. To which my response was “this is the first time I’ve ever worked a desk job and I don’t know what you can display”. Coming from retail you don’t really get a place to display your photos etc so it never crossed my mind to do so. This was when I was given Tinkabell, partly because they said I remind them of her with the cute smile and mischief she creates and partly because this person was also (unbeknownst to me) under the impression everyone was calling me “tink” instead of Tiki. Oh well I still have her pride of place on my computer now.

Thank you to my gift giver!

The Shoes!!!!!

Usually I have no luck finding shoes. When I want red there are none in season, and as soon as I give up then they are everywhere. Also being an ex-dancer I have very narrow feet which suit dance and ballet shoes (points not fashion ballet) however a lot of the high street shoe stores have wider cuts. Therefore I am very used to either having to spend way too much on shoes or settling for the cheaper options with inserts so I don’t slip all over the place. Sadly being on a budget that’s usually what happens. However………

After spending the last week hunting for shoes to go with my new Kitten D’Amour outfits and then throwing my hands up saying “why are there no navy shoes”; I ended up killing time in a little shopping centre where luck would have it I found these beauties.

Pansy by Zoe Wittner

Firstly they are Zoe Wittner so I know they fit, which is fantastic and a huge selling point just there. But no there was to be more joy over shoes when the lovely sales assistant said those magic words “they’re on sale!” so quickly checking for my size, then a quick try on , I handed over my $50…yep that’s right $50 for my new Wittner’s. But of course before I could escape I found just one more pair for $50 that I had to have… so stay tuned.

I know they are on sale at the moment so I do suggest a quick trip to your local store because you never know what you’ll find.

Coco & Igor

You know what its like, you’ve got an evening to yourself and you fancy seeing a movie but which one? I wanted something I could just escape into but was a little different so I dragged myself up to the local art house cinema and stumbled on Coco and Igor. For some reason I adore watching these bio-pic’s with poetic license and so far I’ve seen 3 on Coco Chanel.
This latest one was really good, and focused on Coco’s life when she invited composer Igor Stravinsky and his family to live with her. Although I don’t know if she did have an affair with him, that’s what this film focuses on and actually deals with it in a very nice way (as much as affairs can be).

Warning there are subtitles, and in my opinion I adore them and a movie about a French woman should be in French. Silly I know, but when the movie started off in English I was rather disappointed however five minutes in it went back to French and I was happy again.

The costumes are divine and makes me want to wear more classic Chanel, or at least more items inspired by her. If you like Coco or simply a great French film go out and see this one, another visual masterpiece.
