Shopping with my boys

Ok it was just a matter of time before Mikii, Vustoxn and I ended up at Chapel st bazzar on their last trip down. Not to mention the fact that I'm hunting for inspiration for my guest bedroom, as I said in earlier posts I'm tossing up between "marie antoinette" and "burlesque pinup boudoir". Funnily enough the boys like the pinup better and since their my mine guests I will take that in mind.

What was cool was while looking for a new piece or two for our collections we found some great inspiration for a combination of both styles. Which made me figure I'd share a couple of snaps. Now just to figure how to get this all back into the house????

Pinup Lab

A few months ago I was lucky enough to be part of a pinup lap with the great photographer Miss Kitty. Recently I got the photos back so I thought I'd share them with you.

This was a fantastic day filled with laughs, smiles and even a glass of bubbles how much better can it get! Also I thought I'd let you all know if you fancy a day as a pinup Miss Kitty and the amazing team at the Burlesque Bar will be glad to help out. You can find all the details online and I highly suggest you go for it.

I'm ready for my close up

On a recent shoot I was asked about Pinup Modeling, and "how I do that" versus my fashion/story shoots. So I thought I might give some advice to all you pin-ups out there.

My first piece of advice is RELAX & HAVE FUN!
The biggest part for pin-up photos is that feeling of fun and cheekiness.

Know where your limits should be drawn.
If you feel uncomfortable posing nude/semi nude for pin-up shots, consider posing with props that might cover sensitive areas for an alluring and teasing pose.

Research
Search for pinup images you like and practice them at home.
Also see if the model has something similar to you i.e long legs and try to recreate the pose

Talk to you photographer.
Find out if they have shot these types of poses before, and listen if they have guidance. For instance I know that when a photographer says "Chin up Tiki" it's not that I'm doing a bad job, just certain poses make me look like I have a double chin. Or when the say "relax" its because I get so in my mind about what I'm doing a I get frown lines on my brow, hence I go back to tip #1 RELAX

Use Props
They had a bit of fun to the shoot and have been staples of the style from its inception.

Use caution in the studio.
Lights can be hot, and props can sometimes be tricky to handle.
So just be aware of whats around you.

Music
Make a cd/mp3 palylist with all your favorite songs that put you in the mood and mindset of a pinup. You can often give this to your photographer play it while you pose or listen to it while your getting ready. It will help you relax and make it more fun

Point your toes.
This will help make your legs look longer, leaner and hey nothing ruins the wow factor of a lady’s legs in nylons than a 90 degree ankle.

Be Prepared

Always bring a few outfit options to ensure you have the ability to change with your sets, mood and surroundings. This includes having a matching bra and brief set. Simply because that outfit you felt fabulous in last night might not do it for you when your nervous. So have a back up.

Know what your wearing and know how to lace a corset.
Ok this one is one of my pet hates when it comes to lady's buying corsets/torsolettes, bustier and not knowing the difference or how to wear them.
And yes they are all different things for different reasons.
If you buy a corset please find out how to lace it to really give you the shape you want and embrace your curves!

But most of all enjoy!

Lady Luck

Another great feature of worn wild was seeing the designs from Victorian based designer Jessi Briggs of Lady Luck Lampshades. WOW! is the first thing I'll say and secondly THANKS! It is so great to see some classic prints out on display.

I won't say too much as the designs speak for themselves, but I will say its going to be VERY hard to figure out which 1, 2 or 3 I'm going to get for the house, office, bedroom well about any room that I can put one in. So now to the designs

Aloha Dolls - my #1 Fav at the moment
Tiki Island - i think for the lounge room
Cottage Floral - for the main guest room
Latino Senoras- for the office

A quick trip to heaven!

Raven Black Feather Hair Piece

While on a random trip around South Yarra I stumbled into a stunning little store only to find Julie Fleming. Regarded as Melbourne's leading Milliner it was a joy to be able to walk around her own store on my afternoon off. If your looking for something to make you smile, finish off that wedding outfit or your just after something pretty then you need to get to her Malvern Road salon.

The Wonderful Julie

I admit I did have to walk away with a couple of things, not to mention a very big wish list for this race season. Oh well better start saving now. Not only can you walk into her store you can also read about what she's up too on her blog. Or why not just pop into her store located at 456 Malvern Road, Hawksburn between Williams Road and Chapel Street in what was once a Victorian house.

Media Launch

I was invited to a media launch for a company that I work my 9 – 5 job with this week, which was a good chance to have a laugh with bosses and co-workers. Thankfully the are a pretty awesome bunch of people to work with who work very hard and play hard too so it was always going to be a good night.

There was a competition to see who was the best dressed office, which is funny as most of the staff (reps and tradies) wear uniforms so anything other than their black work pants and logoed work shirt was bound to be an improvement. So with that in mind I decided to make a bit of splash as I’m currently the only girl in my team. I was tempted to come in a victor/Victoria inspired outfit, but thought “embrace the only girl in your office” thinking and went for pinup. Ok so there wasn’t a huge amount of convincing especially as a little package for the USA recently arrived.

This meant I wore my darling black and electric blue accented full skirt dress from Pin up Couture. I’m so glad the postman delivered this is time; you’ve got to love a reason to break out a new frock.

Sadly I am waiting on photo's to come back so here is the catalogue shot from pinup couture of my dress. enjoy

Pinup on the road

With the lastest trip almost behind me I've again been thinking about travel and the luggage we use. Especially as I am trying to pack light however this has meant that my make up and heels seem to be taking up the most room.

I have just invested, although be it only a small amount, in a heavy duty beauty case for the road. As it was getting too hard to try an jam in all my eyelash cases, brushes, potions and powders. Right now its more a stop gap to see if I need to keep up with this level of equipment on jobs of if i need to scale up or down. I've even seen ones the same size as my suitcase, oh to have that much makeup for gigs. As you can see from the shot above its not the most visually stunning, but does handle plane travel well. Plus all that I"d been looking at all seemed like normal road cases with a handle. That was until I saw Hiedeo Wakamatsu's case, and yes its in the same pattern as my favorite suitcase.

I'd love to see inside this one, but as pretty as it is I wonder if its really just a normal hollow beauty case, because what I need is multi layer, multi compartment cases for all the bits and pieces.

Speaking of bits and pieces, while packing the kit on thursday night i discovered I will not need to buy eyelash glue for years as I found 27 tubes/bottles of the stuff. Guess it shows just how many set of false eyelashes i buy. Which brings me to a spoiler for a future entry. To continue with my declutter your life sections I will be looking at de-cluttering your makeup. So brace yourselfs ladies its time to clean out that make up case.....*insert scary music here*

Ok off to my flight luv and bat those lashes ladies

Doll house Photography

Ok so in the last few months/years I’ve amassed quite a wardrobe of retro items including lingerie, dresses, skirts, hat’s and even aprons….but what to do with them all. Yes I wear them out most days but I fancy doing something different. That was when it was suggested I visit the website of Helen McClean . Wow is all I’ll say.

Helen offers Pinup photo shoots where you get to play dress-ups, have your hair and make up done, then get to pose like a pinup for some amazing shots. So after looking amazing you also get a nice collection of photos. Now for anyone wanting to do this but don’t think you have the wardrobe Helen also offers her collection to you to try on and find your style. And guess which dress she has in her collection (as if I needed anymore of an excuse to book a session)

Yes that’s right the dress I’ve been hunting for from Bettie Page clothing. So I’m going to book in and I will post the results when I get them.

So grab a fork because a little cheesecake is coming your way.

dreaming of Vargas

Ok so i should be doing dishes, planning for tomorrows big day at work but all I really feel like doing is looking at the art of Alberto Vargas.

Why you may ask? Well Alberto Vargas was the first pinup artist that I fell in love with as a small starry eyed gal. There was just something about his girls that gave me the sense of "now thats a real woman"

All his girls, to me that is, were the perfect combination of sex, innocence and Goddess. Things I can only dream of being one day.

So as much as it may seem odd to my co-workers and staff I think tomorrows outfit and make up will be Vargas inspired

Sweet dreams
