The Kittens purr

Love and Cherish
Personally I like to support local companies especially when they are independent clothing stores based here in Australia.  A few years ago I discovered Kitten D'Amour in Queensland and I have loved their clothing ever since.  Its a great mix of all I adore with their gothic lolita, retro inspired clothing.  One of the best things about their clothing is you can wear it as a complete outfit or take the parts you love and work it into your daily wear.  In fact its actually a store I always make a special effort to get to when ever I get to the sunshine state.

With their collections ranging from sweet and innocent like the picture to the left from their Love and Cherish Collection to amazing dresses for the races in the Rue De Paris and Dearly beloved collections as seen below.   These pieces let your inner Goddess shine through in a multitude of ways and really who wouldn't want to be a Goddess in their daily life.  Plus when attending events you are sure to stand out in the right way.

So do you like what you see so far?  Then make sure you jump on their website and have a look for yourself.   And please make sure you watch the clip below to help you feel inspired

I'm the One That's Cool

No secret here that I consider myself a bit geeky.  Sure if you saw me at super nova I was the one in the purple wig dressed as Gaz you would agree.  What you may not of know is while walking around the convention I was listening to one of my new fav songs "I'm the one that's cool" performed by the Guild.

If your not sure what I'm talking about I highly suggest you check out the Guild or Geek and Sundry channels to see some of the best vids on all things geek.  Plus thanks to Xbox many years ago this was where I first discovered the great web series The Guild about a bunch of MMO gamers.

All of this introduced me to one of the most amazing gals; My geek goddess Felicia Day.  Felicia is not only stunning but she has a real understanding of what its like to be a girl gamer/geek, and thanks to her writing has helped show that were are more than just a stereotype.

Over the last few years the Guild web series has spread from just a few of us knowing to 100,000's of us logging on each week to watch the adventures of the guild.  Now we also get the joy of listening to vlogs about every thing geek.  Hence I thought I would share.

As always in this world of the independent media please support with the simple act of subscribing or even donating to this channel.

Just one more thing before I sign off, below are my favorite lyrics in this song.

Got my comics
got my games
all the things you thought were lame
Got my Cosplay
Fan fic too
Got you pegged as DFU

Staycation Movie Club

As anyone who has visited my home you will not be surprised to know I have a large and varied movie collection featuring movies from around the world and multiple genres. So as part of my staycation I have raided my movie collection and decided to watch Once.

This great movie came out in 2006 I think but it seems timeless to me. Its such a simple story about love, loss, music and the paths we take in life. If you haven't seen it I suggest you go and hire it, but I warn you after watching it you will need to get the CD as the soundtrack is amazing, heartfelt and raw but with so much soul. I know I last about the time it took to drive from my house to the music store for me to grab it.

Also if you like it you will love the CD's by the band The Swell Season who's artist list includes the two leads from this movie. So grab a coffee, some cake and sit back.

The Story
"An (unnamed) Guy is a Dublin guitarist/singer-songwriter who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners in his Dad's Hoover repair shop by day, and singing and playing for money on the Dublin streets by night. An (unnamed) Girl is a Czech who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. Guy meets Girl, and they get to know each other as the Girl helps the Guy to put together a demo disc that he can take to London in hope of landing a music contract. During the same several day period, the Guy and the Girl work through their past loves, and reveal their budding love for one another, through their songs. Written by Charles Delacroix "

Official Burlesque International Trailer

Sometimes you just can't wait for a movie to hit the cinemas, right now that's how I feel after seeing the trailer for Cher's new movie Burlesque. Sure its not my era, and its not Dita or even Foxtrot India but hey if it helps sparks the interest in Burlesque and the huge list of performers, so far I'm behind it.

So whats the story? Basically the Burlesque Lounge has its best days behind it. Tess, a retired dancer and owner of the venue, struggles to keep the aging theater alive, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. With the Lounge's troupe members becoming increasingly distracted by personal problems and a threat coming from a wealthy businessman's quest to buy the spot from Tess, the good fortune seems to have abandoned the club altogether. Meanwhile, the life of Ali, a small-town girl from Iowa, is about to change dramatically. Hired by Tess as a waitress at the Lounge, Ali escapes a hollow past and quickly falls in love with the art of burlesque. Backed by newfound friends amongst the theater's crew, she manages to fulfill her dreams of being on stage herself. Things take a dramatic turn though when Ali's big voice makes her become the main attraction of the revue.

Still interested then watch the trailer below. Sadly I don't have a confirmed release date only that its looking to hit cinemas round the end of the year. So keep your eyes peeled for it!

MOVIE WATCH - NINE

It's movie time again, well what else are you meant to do when its 10 degrees outside except snuggle up with a good movie and a cup of tea? So I have decided to watch movies that are a) beautiful & b) set in another time period. This time it was Nine directed by Rob Marshall. I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to be seeing but the pretty pictures grabbed by attention.

So what's it about? Italian director Guido Contini is a week away from the start of filming of his latest movie, however he finds himself struggling to find meaning, purpose, and a script. Guido escapes to a seaside resort to get away from all the pressures of this production, as he thinks about the women who have shaped his life.

This is more musical than anything else, but wow what a visual masterpiece. You can see that creative team behind this has looked at the Italian movies of the 1950's and 1960's as the reference visually such greats as La Dolce Vita (1960) by Federico Fellini

Its's worth the watch if for no other reason to get lost in the music and costumes.

An Education

On a grey day there is nothing better than watching a movie while eating chocolate biscuits and drinking tea, especially when that movie is not only enthralling but also visually stunning. While walking the aisles of local dvd store I came across one of those movies I kept saying “I must go see” but sadly never got to. So with treats in hand I went home to snuggle up in front of the TV and get lost in some fantasy. The main characters transformation from school girl to ingénue is divine. She captures the yearning most young women go through, as well as great pose as she learns some of the harder life lessons.

In the early 1960's, sixteen year old Jenny Mellor (Carey Mulligan) lives with her parents in the London suburb of Twickenham. Everything that Jenny does is in the sole pursuit of being accepted into Oxford. The only problems perceive in her life is her issue with learning Latin, and her being perused by a boy named Graham, who is nice but socially awkward. Yet everything in Jenny's life changes after she meets David Goldman (Peter Sarsgaard), a man over twice her age whom she meets while walking home in the ran one afternoon.

David goes out of his way to show Jenny and her family that his interest in her is not improper and that he wants solely to expose her to cultural activities which she enjoys. Jenny quickly gets accustomed to the life to which David and his constant companions, Danny and Helen, have shown her, and Jenny and David's relationship does move into becoming a romantic one. However, Jenny slowly learns more about David, and by association Danny and Helen, and specifically how they make their money. Jenny has to decide if what she learns about them and leading such a life is worth forgoing her plans of higher eduction at Oxford

I won’t tell you what she decides you’ll just have to watch the movie yourself. However, if you like classic 1960’s fashion, cool cars and a story of coming of age then you’ll love this. You may even feel a little empowered by the end of it. It just goes to show there are still new coming of age stories out there.

So stop reading and go get An education.
