Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope

It was a quiet night in when my AppleTV suggested I watch a movie; yep a bit creepy that the little black box next to me TV knows what I like but hey it was right.  As I a am a fan of sci-fi, geeks, con's and documentries it suggested that I watch Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope.  Normally I'm a bit hessitant of doco's on us geeks at con's as they usually paint us in the "never left our parent's basement' light.  However when the doco is produced with people like Morgan Spurlock, Joss Whedon, Kevin Smith it was worth watching the trailer at least I thought....yep and I was right it was totally worth it.

I am a proud geek gal who embraces being a bit left of centre and enjoys dressing up in Cosplay to go to a con, so to be able to watch a doco that is all about embracing what you love was brilliant.  I admit there were even a few times when I teared up at some of the stories they followed in it.  Trust me if you have ever been to a con, been called a geek for liking sci fi or comics then this is a movie for you.  It also features some great interviews with people like Seth Rogan, Seth Green and of course my favourites Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith.  Plus it features great quotes like .....
"The geeks shall inherit the earth.
Firstly don't call me a geek and secondly how much do i get?
Do I get Australia?" Joss Whedon

"If I could go back in time and tell the 11yr old me that not only will you go to comic con but you'll go every year so much so like you'll be greeted by Stan lee when you show up.  And the 11 yr old me will be like how did we get so fat? " Kevin Smith

So yes now more than ever I am planning to save up, make costumes and somehow get myself to comic con at least once in my life.  This movie is worth the watch so jump on iTunes or your local web-streaming channel, I'm personally now going to try and find a hard copy so I can watch this whenever I'm feeling blue to cheer myself up.

Hopefully it will also inspire you all to follow your dreams and realize you are not alone.  Chances are if you like it there are others out there in the 'verse who also do.  So let you freak flag high and celebrate who you are!!!!!!

Supanova 2012

Ok so its taken me ages to put up even some of the Supanova photos but here are a couple.  I also found a great clip which shows you even more of the ultra cool people that attended this event around the nation.

My main two highlights were .......

Meeting Richard Horvitz, getting autographs and of course posing for this photo.  In case your wondering we had just yelled "I AM ZIM" at the camera before they snapped the pic hence the expressions. I still laugh at that everytime I look at the pic.

And Second......

Meeting and getting a hug from Will Wheaton.  Some of you may know him from The Big Bang Theory as Sheldon's nemesis, but I grew up watching Will on Star Trek TNG and then he popped up on my fav web show the Guild as Fox.  So to get this close and get a hug was AWESOME.

If you saw me after each of these meeting I was like a little kid,  and speaking of being a little kid I even saw ELMO at the event.

Now you may be also wondering who on earth I was dressed as well......I went as GAZ from Invader Zim which made meeting Richard even more special as his first words to me "Wow its Gaz".  However I wasn't the best dressed person there, the hardcore Cosplay fans were amazing.  Check out the vid below to see what I mean.

Live Long and Prosper, May the Force be with you and may you all enjoy a bit of Cosplay now and then.

I'm the One That's Cool

No secret here that I consider myself a bit geeky.  Sure if you saw me at super nova I was the one in the purple wig dressed as Gaz you would agree.  What you may not of know is while walking around the convention I was listening to one of my new fav songs "I'm the one that's cool" performed by the Guild.

If your not sure what I'm talking about I highly suggest you check out the Guild or Geek and Sundry channels to see some of the best vids on all things geek.  Plus thanks to Xbox many years ago this was where I first discovered the great web series The Guild about a bunch of MMO gamers.

All of this introduced me to one of the most amazing gals; My geek goddess Felicia Day.  Felicia is not only stunning but she has a real understanding of what its like to be a girl gamer/geek, and thanks to her writing has helped show that were are more than just a stereotype.

Over the last few years the Guild web series has spread from just a few of us knowing to 100,000's of us logging on each week to watch the adventures of the guild.  Now we also get the joy of listening to vlogs about every thing geek.  Hence I thought I would share.

As always in this world of the independent media please support with the simple act of subscribing or even donating to this channel.

Just one more thing before I sign off, below are my favorite lyrics in this song.

Got my comics
got my games
all the things you thought were lame
Got my Cosplay
Fan fic too
Got you pegged as DFU

May the 4th be with you

Raise your lightsabers high coz its ....

Well for those of you who don't know......ITS STAR WARS DAY!!!!

Yep nerds and sci fi fans of the world unite as this is our day to celebrate Star Wars culture and honor the films. It is called Star Wars Day because of the popularity of a common pun spoken on this day. Since the phrase "May the force be with you" is a famous quote often spoken in the Star Wars films, fans commonly say "May the fourth be with you" on this day.

So grab your light saber, DVD and get your best cosplay on and enjoy!!!!

St Trinians

One of the Maiden's of St Trinian's
 Greetings all......

This morning I am feeling the need to have a bit of a retro geek moment.  Growing up I was lucky enough to be introduced to St Trinian's, nope not the 2007 version with Russell Brand.  Instead the classic movies from the mid 1950's which will always hold a special place in my heart.  Not only did it inspire me to learn all the lyrics to the theme song, start drawing the St. Trinian's logo all over my school books but in my mind it was a great way to see that we can all be accepted exactly as we are.

With all this mind I have begun my hunt for some of the classic books these movies were based on.
Hurrah for St Trinian's (1948)
The Female Approach (1950)
Back to the Slaughterhouse (1952)
The Terror of St Trinians (1953)

If that fails maybe a day of movies.  The playlist looks like this

The Belles of St Trinian's (1954, the first film)
Blue Murder at St Trinian's (1957, the second film)
The Pure Hell of St Trinian's (1960, the third film)
The Great St Trinian's Train Robbery (1966, the final film of the quartet)
The Wildcats of St Trinian's (1980, with Maureen Lipman taking on the Joyce Grenfell role)
St Trinian's (2007)
St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold (2009)

So I thought I would share some images and the theme song with you all.
