Seeing (RED) this month

Nope I'm not talking about Christmas decorations or the stress while trying to find a car park when Christmas shopping.  I'm talking about (RED) and the amazing work that is being done in Africa; as well as December 1st being international AIDS day.  I first discovered this movement about 5 years ago, however I have been a long supporter of International AIDS day for many years.  The great thing about (RED) is the product(red) part of this movement.

Its pretty simple.  Many companies have created special red products (like red ipods from apple) and the profits from these sales go to the global fund to help others.  The products range from shoes to technology, music and coffee.  In my opinion all of these products are things most of my peers and I would purchase anyway so why not pick the specific products that can help others.

Here is just a little bit of info from the join(red) website about what its all about.

Every Generation is known for something.
Let's be the one that delivers an AIDS Free Generation.
We all have tremendous power. What we choose to do or even buy, can affect someone’s life on the other side of the world.
In 2010, 1,000 babies were born every day with HIV.
In 2011, that number was down to 900.
By 2015 it can be near zero. We can stop the transmission of HIV from moms to their babies.
In the fight to eliminate AIDS, 2015 could be the beginning of the end – it’s the year we can deliver an AIDS Free Generation.
(RED) can’t accomplish this alone. It will take all of us to get there –
governments, health organizations, companies, and you.
When you DO THE (RED) THING, a (RED) partner will give up some of its profits to fight AIDS.
It’s as simple as that.
BE (RED). Start the end of AIDS now.

So if this sounds interesting please jump on the site and see what little changes you can make in your purchasing to get the things you were already going to buy and support others.

A call to arms - we are the media

This is not my normal "wow Amanda Palmer is amazing"; ok so in a way it is but its also about all of the people out there that make a difference.  This is a call to arms you could say.

Personally I am a big lover of the arts - music, movies, art, theatre you name it I will give it a chance.  I believe that the power of the arts especially music is more than I can express.  Music has changed my moods, locked in memories of people and places, not to mention inspired me. All day I had been checking my Twitter feed to see what was going on and Amanda's was in overdrive with thank yous but I couldn't see the reason why so much love was being shared over the world.  In fact it wasn't till I got home and jumped online to watch the GeekandSundry channel did my YouTube homepage explain it all to me.  Once opening the page I saw Amanda had uploaded the vid you see above and it all made sense.  It is a call to arms for her new record/artbook/tour all on Kickstarter.

Basically Amanda and the GTO need some help to fund their music.  The fundraiser lasts for 30 days with the aim to raise $100,000 for the album/tour/artbook.  Now that's a lot of money when the minimum pledge is $1, thats a lot of love from fans needed.  And thats exactly what Amanda and the GTO have recieved.

On saturday night I put my money where my heart is and pledged to help this project and thanks to many others the stats look like this (as of monday when i checked.)

BACKERS : 10,382
GOAL: $100,000
PLEDGES RAISED: $571,299
DAYS TO GO:24

WOW!!!!!! is all I can say, and yes this does restore my faith in a world where digital priracy is everywhere.  This is people saying I will give YOU the ARTIST the money to SUPPORT YOU.  Every time I watch the clip I get teary as I reminds me of the days when artist were supported by individual people not just large corporations.

"Update #1: welcome to the project! HOLY FUCK

GOOD LORD.
we did it, dear comrades. we're doing it.  do you see what's happening for cry-eye?  i thought this would work, but i didn't know it would fucking EXPLODE!!!!!!

i have so much to say to you all, but let me point out the most important thing, really, truly:
YOU GUYS CREATED THE RAGING FIRESTORM that made this crazed success possible.
YOU YOU YOU.

from the moment we launched, i watched you all spreading the link, creating facebook groups to get the house parties, supporting at whatever level you could, telling people what you'd done…i watched the twittersphere and blogosphere going BERSERK with shared information: that was YOU, that was not me.

 it's still happening.
the word about the record and the kickstarter is spreading like madness....via the people who are supporting it.
THAT'S HOW IT WORKS. so THANK YOU. we all did this together.
thank you not only for backing at whatever level you did: but for BEING THE MEDIA.
no rolling stone, no spin, no TV, no radio...none of that.
PEOPLE POWER.

this is the new way, motherfuckers: we come first - the media follows. not the other way around.
we all went to work and we all did our part to spread the information.

and look what it did. the whole world is watching, and it's awesome. the SCALE of this means we're making history.

i've been doing this crazy job for a long, long time. and i've never felt stronger, braver, and more supported...i feel like i'm crowdsurfing on a sea of 10,000 loving arms.it's the best feeling in the world.

so.....
you're going to be getting lots of updates from me and the team, starting NOW...and i'm going to try my darndest to make you all thrilled and happy as hell that you chose to back this epic undertaking.

and seriously? WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR THE RECORD....you're going to flip your shit.

i go into the NYC mastering studio with john & michael this thursday to finalize the sound and song order. i'll try to get some video for you.

i love you all so much.
i'm in a bit of a daze. things are about to GO MENTAL....thanks for being on this beautiful ride with me, the band, and my whole team.

yesterday we did a photoshoot in NYC with my friend kyle cassidy...and this one's for you guys:"

So from one fan here in melbourne i say "I LOVE AND SUPPORT YOU".  Yes we are the media, yes we are the ones who can hold the special ones in this world high, we CAN support each other.  LOVE YOU AMANDA FROM TIKIDOLL

Lingerie of the Week

And the winner is.....
There are times when you want the sexy A team, and others went to pull out the B Team. Just because you are after the more comfort underwear rather than racy doesn't mean you have to be wearing the beige scary granny panties.

While out shopping the other day I came across this fabulous range of womens Hello Kitty underwear. Cute, comfy and rather well priced. Needless to say they just had to come home with me.

These 95% Cotton / 5% Spandex bra and panty sets for women feature Hello Kitty in black and white with pink and white bows in an all-over print. The soft-cup bra has adjustable, elasticized straps and the undies are bikini style. These fun sets are machine washable and easy care.

Burlesque Britain

As a lover of the vintage era lingerie it will be no surprise that I love Burlesque, so when reading the following information its clear why I had to help spread the word.

Below is from www.burlesquewomensinstitute.com

The BWI has been watching the development of the SEEL (Sexual Encounter Entertainment License) over the last several months with some trepidation and as it has now been thrust into the limelight by Camden Council, we now feel it is high time that we sprang into action and got our campaign under way.

The UK burlesque scene stands to be severly threatened by these impending changes which could herald the end of something we all love so much and for many of us is not only a way of life but our careers.

All we are looking for is an amendment to the bill that allows the removal of clothing as a performance as long as it does not result in nudity, and any establishments hosting an event with such parameters be exempt from the requirement to purchase a SEEL license.

The license has not yet reached the final steps to be passed through parliament but we need to highlight how a loop hole in the act could affect us, here are some of the ways in which you can get involved and support our campaign;

Sign the online government petition [read more...]

Print a copy of our paper petition for your club, event or night [read more...]

Contact your local MP [read more...]

Take part in our public demonstration [read more...]

Come to our "Reverse Burlesque" night in Camden [read more...]

Spread the word [read more...]

It's time to walk in the footsteps of our past,
the Luftwaffe didn't stop Mrs Henderson!,
so gird your stiff upper lip, join in the fighting spirit
and sign up to our campaign

Where can you go to support
"Revudeville" Fundraiser - 12th July 2009

We have been informed by our friends at Camden Council that any event involving stripping, nudity, has the word "Burlesque" in it's title or anything in the style of Dita Von Teese, will require a "Sexual Encounter Entertainment License" so we have decided to create our very own non burlesque revue in honour of Camden Council.

"Proud" Camden will be our hosts for a glittering evening where you will be delighted and dazzeled by a fine selection of performers from the UK cabaret scene, and some of the most beautiful displays of women getting dressed you wil have ever seen.

So come and join us for and evening of light hearted "Reverse Burlesque" which will stay strictly within the bounds of Camden Councils requirements.

Acts are still being confirmed but we can let you in on breaking news that our fabulous headling acts will be Jo King and Gwendoline Lamour!!!
