Goodbye and Thank you

It is with great sadness that I write this post. Today I heard the sad news about Steve Jobs passing away. You may wonder why the passing away of a person I never knew has affected me. To put it simply I have been using Apple Mac’s since I was a little girl, with my very first computer being the Apple Mac Classic SE II as shown below.

My first apple

With great thanks to the team at Apple that I have been inspired for years by new technology, been excited to learn, write and play. When I first started using Apple I was just a little girl and was look at weird when I said "I use a mac" now that phrase is no longer odd. Its no longer uncommon to own at least one apple product. Personally I have 3 ipods, a macbook, a macbook pro and an iphone; and yes if anyone wants to send an ipad my way I'd gladly give it a good home.

So basically I would like to say thank you to Steve and all at apple and leave you with a quote that I adore from an old apple ad that still rings true to me.

”Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world
are the ones who do.”

beauty shake up ahead

Ok so I am about to embark on a bit of a werid adventure tomorrow. I'm going to give myself a make over. You may be wondering why? But that will all become apparent in the following post. So for now I am looking around the net trying to find some inspiration for the big day. Fingers crossed I find what I'm after.

WTF!!!!

This is just a little rant because honestly I could go on for hours if I'm not careful.

Basically I'm confused and angry that in the past week I have come across many of the big department stores with their Christmas departments already set up. Now I come from a generation where Christmas was this magical once a year thing. Yes that's right for the month of December the normal retail world was transformed into a sparkling world of glitter and childish glee. I also come from the belief that this magical transformation was to start after Melbourne Cup at the very earliest which is the first week of November. So you can imagine my outrage to find a christmas department set up before Melbourne Cup (nov), halloween (oct) and AFL grand final (sept).

Poor Kendiedoll had to listen to me vent my frustration on this subject the other week and now I am writing to ask you all to please hold off on the Christmas spirit for just a little longer. Simply as each year the festive season in stores seems to be creeping forward each year. Soon they will never take it down. So for this Christmas I'm asking Santa to give retail planners a calendar with the correct dates for holidays marked in it.

Style Icons

It's not very often you drop into the shops to pick up some milk and cookies and find some dresses you would tackle a burly security guard for. However this is exactly what I found last night at Chadstone Shopping centre. In fact what I found was an exhibition of some of the clothing from MAD MEN!!!! Yep thats right Mad Men costumes so close you can almost touch.

Just in case your not a local to the Chadstone shops I'll share some pictures of what I found. Ok so its not a big exhibition but it does feature some great pieces from the wardrobe of Peggy Olsen, Betty Draper and the amazing Joan Harris.

See what I mean, how cool is this!! I did find it quiet refreshing to see such stunning gowns even if I was surrounded by mass produced modern pieces. It was funny as I did imagine these garments a little more fitted, but it does go to show its all about the woman in the dress and that we don't all need to be the same to make clothing look wonderful.

And have a look at the wonderful barbie dolls. It did almost make me want to take my collectors edition 1950 barbie out of the box and re-dress her ass Joan. Its ok the craziness didn't make me do it.

And just a couple more of the great gowns worn by Peggy. I so wish I had these outfits to wear at work instead of my uniform. Oh well time to day dream.

So keep your eyes peeled as you never know what you will find when you go out for milk and cookies!!!

Addicted to FREE apps

Now its no secret I'm addicted to my iphone4 which also means I have become addicted to the Apps I can put on it. Sure most of my apps are photo related but I thought I'd let you in on some of the ones I'm using day to day.

First up is my Woolworths app. No you may be thinking you already have a shopping list app but this one is fantastic. I adore this one for so many reasons including:
- It lets me know whats on special
- I can create shopping lists for each mood i.e basics, girl stuff, yummy dinners, guests
- I can either add products by typing in the product name or by scanning the barcode. For me thats great because if I find a sauce I like I often forget the name so as long as I scan the barcode before throwing it out I can always find it again
- It gives me yummy cooking ideas and adds the items I need to my shopping list
-I have mine set up for my local store so it tells me exactly which aisle I can find everything, so no more wandering up and down aisles getting lost
- its FREE to download!!!!

The OPI app
Ever sat on your lunch break and wondered what colour you want to paint your nails? Well now with the OPI app you can sit, drink your latte and play with all the colours without having to move.
With this app you can test out all the colours from all the collections, which also update each time you open the app. Plus you can add your fav's to the list so you will never forget which colour you just had painted on at the nail salon. HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!
Plus its another FREE APP!!!

And last but not least TramTracker. This is another great free app if you live in melbourne as it tells you how long till the next tram, journey planner, where the trams are going and so much more. I have found this app extremely useful when in the CBD and trying to figure out how to get to the football and other events.

So if you have an iphone or an android phone start looking at these great free apps for a helpful hand each day

Jubly-Umph Orginals

While on one of my many days around town I came across some stunning local made pieces. I adore hand made art work especially when I can wear it around town and get people asking about it. According to their website Jubly-Umph 'artworks are inspired by old school tattoos, rockabilly and pin ups. The original designs are made into jewellery using polystyrene plastic, resin and stainless steel.' So it wasn't really a hard decision for Mikii and I if we were going to purchase a couple of pieces; in fact the hardest choice was which one. Oh and yes this is a massive to hint to anyone who needs a present idea for me.

The piece that came home with us was this green bottles featuring a skull. Created from an original Jubly-Umph illustration this pendant is coated in glossy resin and comes with a stainless steel chain. I just adore this and was sad to have to say goodbye as it was given to a dear friend of ours.

However I did keep this piece for myself. I just adore it and admit it is the perfect broach to wear with almost any outfit, plus when its not part of my out fit I have been wearing it on my bag, scarf or pretty much anywhere I can pin it. But now let me show you some of the items on my wish list

Sweater guards - a must for any lady wearing a twin set

Hot Red Metal Flake Hair Bow - Perfect for everyday at work

Be Mine Pin Up Girl Necklace - do I even need to put a reason why I want this.

So jump online now and get shopping with these amazing pieces that you know you need and want!!!!!
