14. Song from a favourite band
Spooky performed by The Puppini Sisters

I like this one as its another cover but a great female group. The Puppini sisters may sound like they've stepped out of the 1940's but they are modern marvels. So enjoy this classic tune

13. A song to get you dancing
Addicted performed by Waldeck

This is another that's a bit left of centre but hang in there its worth a listen. I really do love songs that seem to float between era's and this does it so well (as does the next song on my list). So get ready to do some sultry dancing around the house.

Its simple it reminds me of the first concert I shared with one of my best gals Bell, she took me to this tiny squashed club with people from all walks of life and introduced me to this great gypsy rock band. Enjoy!!!

11. A song that makes me laugh
The Hotdog Man by Tripod

There are so many songs from Tripod that make me laugh including "lingering dad", "stalk you" and "gonna make you happy tonight". However this song "the hot dog man" has always made me laugh no matter how many times I hear. Sure its no surprise at Gatesy's confusion mid song but it still makes me giggle.

4. A song that describes me
I'm no Heroine by Ani Difranco

For many years I have adored Ani Difranco's work, her combination of folk style music and poetry really speaks to me. Its hard to choose just one song of hers that describes me or speaks to me but there is one line in this piece that just calls to me. In essence I guess its what I hope my writing/poetry/blogs do.

"i'm no heroine
at least, not last time i checked
i'm too easy to roll over
i'm too easy to wreck
i just write about
what i should have done
i just sing
what i wish i could say
and hope somewhere
some woman hears my music
and it helps her through her day"

4. A song from my childhood
Dance Myself to Sleep by Bert and Ernie

There are so many songs from my childhood I could pick but I decided to go with a Sesame Street classic from Bert and Ernie. Even to this day the line " I'm getting kinda drowsy so the moment has come, to grab my rubber ducky while the sheep take my chum" I still start laughing. So a big thanks to Jim Henson for all the wonderful memories!

Inspiration for the day

As the weather changes I look towards the sky for clothing inspiration. So instead I turn towards one of my favourite stars Zooey Deschanel. As she has similar colouring to myself I thought I would create an outfit that brings out her eyes. I went with this vintage style blue chiffon dress with bright blue shoes as a strong accent. However to tone done the full blue outfit I added a cream faux fur coat. Its the great style outfit that exmbraces the need for warmth at this time of year but still embraces the soft girly feel of autumn.

5. A song that makes you sad
Bad Wine and Lemon Cake by The Jane Austen Argument
performed by The Jane Austen Argument with Amanda Palmer

This song was on a recent release of Amanda's (yes you all knew she'd get in this list at some point) and thankfully she introduced me to The Jane Austen Argument and the beautiful sound of Tom Dickenson. I find his voice so captivating that I could listen to him sing for hours on end. I have actually been lucky enough to not only see The Jane Austen Argument perform here at the Butterfly club in melbourne but also with the amazing Amanda Palmer. This song does make me sad but in a good way, if there is such a thing. It just reaffirms my belief that music is food for the soul as it can lift you up, hold you and often say what you can't seem to. Enjoy!!!!

Happy Mothers Day

Just a quick post today in honor of mothers day. Personally my mum is up in sunny QLD while I'm in Melb so the option of going out for high tea isn't really going to done, however I do wish her a happy mothers day.

For my readers please spend some time thinking about your mother and all she has done for you. Don't get wrapped up in the big commercial side, instead remember when a hand made card and a gift when you were little would bring her smiles. Its the fact you took time to think of her, so bake her a cake, make her lunch or simply spend some time doing what she likes.

Much love to all the mum's out there.

4. A song I know all the words to
Anywhere by Evanescence

Another song that holds very special meaning to me and Yes i know all the words to this one. Again I came across this song from a friend who was swapping music with me, now I knew Evanesence but this track was new to me as its from their recordings prior to being signed up by a big record company. A haunting track that speaks to me about love and the ability to start new as long as the one you love is by your side. Enjoy

3. A song that reminds you of someone
Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

This song was recently given to me as part of a tradition I have with my friends. I ask all my friends to give me at least one song/artist that I have never heard of before in an effort to expand my musical taste and to understand what interests my friends. Needless to say every time I hear it I am reminded of them. It makes me think of our friendship and the amazing time we have together not to mention that I know we will always be there for each other, as we have been through a lot together. So to my dear friend if your reading this THANK YOU!!!!

2. Least Favourite Song
Rebecca Black - Friday

Well this doesn't really need much explaining, apart from there is a reason why I don't like the mass produced music of the 'younger generation'. Sure there are some great muso's coming up in the ranks but this is not one of them. So I apologize in advance if you listen to this song, but hey I did warn you!!!! LMAO

30 songs in 60 days challenge pt1

After having writers block for the last few months I have decided to take up the 30 day song challenge, however in an effort not to bombard you all with a thousand clips in will be 30 songs in 60 days. As you all know I adore music so these songs are just a small collection because for certain themes I could go for days. So to start.....

1. My favourite Song (well right now anyway)
Emily Browning - Asleep

I fell in love with this song after seeing Suckerpunch starring one of my favourite Melbourne Actress' Emily Browning. Needless to say when I found out that Emily also sang most of the songs on the album I was even happier. This song is actually a cover of a Smiths song, (from Louder than Bombs - I think)another band I have recently discovered and love but more about that later. So why is it my favourite (at the moment at least), it easy...because it is beautiful, haunting and speaks to me in ways that I can't actually describe. Emily's version just seems to have another level to it that just makes you fall in love and break your heart at the same time. So enjoy.
